How do I get good ratings
by: PnmHow do I ensure a good rating during the rounds? Is there something to really make me stand out
#1 by: Can’t control “ratings”
This is going to be a long one.
Some girls are going to be rated high just because they were well-known and popular from high school, even if they weren’t the nicest or best for their sisterhood. You, as a PNM, cannot control that. Also, some girls will be rated low from former HS classmates. Again, you cannot control that.
Some girls are going to be rated high because they have the goods that any house is looking for: positive attitude, attractive, presents herself well, great grades, poised, appropriately funny, easy and effortless at conversation, thrives wherever she gets planted. The only thing you CAN do is be the best version of you! Practice your small talk skills. If you have any quirks ( you can’t look people in the eye, make weird facial movements while talking or listening, say “like” or “um” a lot) work on phasing those out. Open house and philanthropy rounds are more like interviews than later rounds. Strange conversations are noted and can get you cut as fast as poor grades. Also, keep your breath fresh and smell nice. Not perfume-y. There are over 200 girls in the house, PNM’s and actives, gathered in small areas. If you smell bad or too perfumed, it will be noticed. If you’re known for being stylish with your hair or clothes, go for it and show it off! Just keep it appropriate and keep your makeup in daytime mode. If you’re not the most confident dresser, get some trusted opinions around to help you and keep it comfortable to you. Don’t speak about other houses, positive or negative, no matter where you are. Just thank the house that invited you back for inviting you back and for wanting to spend more time with you!
You cannot help your grades at this point. This year has been a weird year. But, not many changes will be in place regarding grades. If you’re under 3.2, expect cuts. Get in your recs!!! This next recruitment year has the potential to be very ( very very) different. Recs are going to be very important for us to get to know PNM’s beforehand.
