can sororities tell if they dropped you before?

by: Sophomore PNM

I rushed freshman year and I didn’t know anyone. Unfortunately I was released from the process. If I rush as a sophomore will they know I rushed freshman year and/or that I was dropped. Will they know if their individual house dropped me too?

They do keep track of that but a lot can change between now and then. Focus on raising your GPA as high as possible and getting multiple recs for every house. It's very likely you were dropped in early rounds based solely on those factors.

I came in with a 4.0 GPA and at least one rec for every house. My GPA is still really good. So I’m wondering what else they’re looking for

No one can tell you why you were dropped by all houses, but usually it's because of personality. Too quiet and shy, or didn't indicate interest in the house, kind of blah and just there or hard to read, didn't smile. Or, maybe too much the other way, like too assertive or opinionated, laughed too loudly too often, too talkative, over the top. When you're nervous it's harder to relate to strangers, so now that you've gone through it once and know what to expect, perhaps you will be calmer and can adjust your personality to light up or dial back as appropriate.

So will the houses know that I was released from the process as a whole or that they individually dropped me?

A house will know if they dropped you but they don't have some kind of report on who was dropped by other sororities. It wouldn't matter anyway; a sorority doesn't make decisions based on what other sororities decide. Don't worry about it. The next year rushing can be a fresh start and you know more now.

I think one would assume u dropped out of rush instead of getting cut by all of them

I have known people to go through freshman year, drop out then pledge sophomore year. It is usually for grade reasons though but if you have met people, etc they could help pull you in. Knowing people is key I think for pledging as a sophomore.
