But it’s almost 2020 and the comments on here are so “Mom” and from another era!!!
Instagram IS much more current reality than the BS you’ll find here.
It’s not your Moms campus/social life anymore. So don’t be social media ignorant / in this day and age, it’s influential.

In what universe in this day and age is an instagram not going to make an impact.
Agree, high profile and lots of followers may miss the mark in some houses prefer lower profile/quieter members.
But a good insta that matches well with the house vibe is certainly going to be noticed!
Get real.
Not saying it’s a must. But a good insta consistent with the house members will make a difference in any house. Particularly if you are unknown.

Old Row doesn’t want influencers, so having tens of thousands will actually hurt you. Look at MM in KKG. They gave her a bid and she was doing microwave pancakes in a mug IG posts. KKG is mortified. That’s the only Old Row influencer I’ve ever heard of. The rest go PBP and APhi and that one super weird AOPi one.

I genuinely don’t get it. It’s pancakes, not something obscene. Why is that embarrassing? I don’t have an opinion on MM either way, don’t know her, but why would shilling food be embarrassing when she’s tiny?
Honestly yes houses like Zeta and APhi look at your Instagram. Some of the girls in GPhi may but it won’t be the determining factor in you getting a bid or not. DZ will rush the crap out of anyone with lots of followers, look like at FA.

They prefer women who stay in the background, concede to the men, and although they get good grades will stick to a “traditional” female niche and not appear too pushy.

So sorry, but the 2 main "influencers" in PBP seem SO ditzy and, bless their hearts, dense as bricks. Both seem very sweet, but I was shocked when I found out the younger one is in the honors college...then again, probably not saying much. That said, I can see why Old Row might want to keep all that at bay...

I'm in a top sorority that supposedly bids on looks and I don't even have an Instagram acct. I am not into selfies, I'm not a legacy and I'm OOS. I love my sisters and no one has ever cared that being an insta model isn't my thing. I'm not the only one in my house either.

Nobody's saying that ig isn't influential, but it won't lift up a pnm to give her an advantage during recruitment. In fact, it is far more often the opposite. What you put on your ig can get you cut first round. Makes our job easier tbh.
