the facts

More girls from "out of the south" pledged this year than Alabama girls did. In fact, the number of Alabama girls decreased while "out of the south" girls increased by over 200, compared to last year. That is significant! I think we might see a little "shake up" here. The trend for the University to recruit the brightest continues! I'll post the percentages tomorrow. Yay bama! Roll tide!

The OOS kids have higher grades AND it shows UA is on the radar for good students nationally

By: That's good

necessarily true. I have a 4.0 and I live here. Being OOS doesn't make someone smarter unless they're here a academic merit. Don't assume those kinds of things. Lots of people make bad grades and come in from OOS bc UA is a quality school with a great athletics program

The OOS candidates have higher median GPA, higher test scores and make up over 90% of the merit scholarships.

It is why the restrictive Fraternities are getting passed up by New Row.
The OOS brothers on New Row are generally impressive, whereas Old Row dedicates up to 33% of their classes for legacies. The legacies are not NECESSARILY losers .... but they are generally losers

Nah. The OOS kids get here and learn the tiers, then they want into the hardest-to-get-into groups.
Alabama tiers are set in stone and steel. They will never, ever change.

Out is the South students are here to have a good time and get a great education. They will then move out of Alabama probably, but possibly stay in the south in a metropolitan city. I would venture to guess they are highly academically inclined and intend to use their college years to land themselves a good job after college, thus I highly doubt they will get caught up in the few egotistical minds that feel they rule Greek life. Time for you to move to the future and quit digging your heels on. You are losing ground with each passing year.

That in AL these things are important. Being in the best means you get to have connections with the best in the state (aka governors, senators, etc.) who can advance you in life in Alabama. That's not important to OOSers bc they will probably move back to wherever they're from

I've been around for a l-o-n-g time...seen chapters go, come back, go again, even come back again.
Believe me...nothing every changes. Through the years, the tiers remain the same.
Some of the OOSers will stay, but very few. Most of them will go back to their home state or region.

It's not about being out of state. The out of state kids who worry are the ones who aren't from the south.

If they're great. A lesser pnm from Mountain Brook has a better chance than a girl from Brooklyn even if she's more qualified.
