block stadium seating

by:

Interesting to see the seating chart for games and not see all the houses. I didn't realize that not all houses had it and just assumed that we would all have a place to sit for games. Happy my new house does but why not all? Is it based on house numbers or a lottery? My other pref house doesn't seem to have seating and it seems to be a good popular house. I don't want to sound stupid asking at my house so I will try here first.

You have to apply and be approved. Sororities didn’t even have block seating at all until about 4 years ago when Chi O and Pi Phi applied.

Block seating used to be all fraternities/student orgs until sororities started applying. Placement of blocks are based off GPA, extracurriculars/involvement, and size of organization. Since sororities tend to have better grades and involvement, they tend to get blocks closer to the front (explains why AXO alpha gam and aopi are in the front row).

Some sororities opt not to because of tradition, and if you have a game day date you’ll sit in the fraternity’s block. Either way, it doesn’t really matter as a freshman because there’s no block seating in upper bowl.

On the flip side of this, for some houses with less impressive stats it’s much less embarrassing to not apply at all than to apply and be given nothing or two rows at the very back. I know my house doesn’t bother.

If placement is based off of involvement, size, and gpa that means that the sororities that have blocks are better in those areas on campus than the ones that don't. Mine doesn't have a block and I didn't know that until a few days ago. I guess it doesn't look too good for us. It won't matter this year but I would have liked to have a chance to sit in reserved seating with my sisters. So I'm confused, do we just get there early and try to sit together or are we all over the place? Seems like that would have been a good thing to look into before rush. Do we get a chance every year to try again for next year or do we have to wait for another group to lose theirs?

Where is the list of sororities that get seats? I imagine that they all go to OR first. My house doesn't have it and I'm kind of annoyed.

No, actually, the university doesn’t care about OR and NR

There are NR houses that have seating and OR that does not. The top houses for grades and involvement across campus have seating, nothing to do with OR/NR

Some houses have girls that get dates!

Who need block searing?

Who needs a date when I can have my own seat 😎
Seriously we’re still determining our worth based off of having a date to something like a football game? Don’t get me wrong, love my swaps, love my date parties, but come onnnnnn.

Right...why settle for a date's seating, when its smart girls to the front row.

No need to sell myself out for a seat at the game. I don't need some sweaty guy to make me feel special and a part of something. I have no problems getting dates and love cheering on the games with my sisters! This is such a pathetic excuse for houses that can't get it together enough to get the grades or can't be bothered to follow through in getting a block. Such a throwback that a girl is only worthy if she has a frat guy on her shoulder.

I agree you shouldn’t and don’t need a date to have a good time at the game, but it’s not like the chapters without a block don’t get to sit together in regular student seating... block seating is not the end all of the Alabama football experience and it’s not realistic for all 17 chapters to apply for it either.

The seating relies on GPA and also involvement. People are saying it is no big deal because they don't have it. There are houses here that don't do anything on campus besides getting high and drunk every day. So many people trying to bury posts and put up ranks that elevate houses that are invisible on campus except in the bars and frat houses in the early morning hours. We all party and go out just some of us can also be leaders on campus and are involved in other things. To find the all around involved and respected sororities, look at the seating chart. That is where rankings should start. While PNM should not make their choices based on seating, this should be bumped up next August since it is more than a seat at a game. Check out those groups that make up the front rows. See who is missing completely. It tells a big story.

Hey now, all our sorority houses are great! Tiers make girls in low ranked houses feel bad, and comments like the above make the lower grade houses feel bad. All our houses have decent grade GPAs, especially compared to frats. If all our houses had block seating and frats with their low grades would have none.

Yeah this is an extremely sad and narrow view of literally over half of our chapters who do not have block seating.

I agree post #6 is extra. I don't agree with most of it. However, how is this any different then decades of rankings that put so many girls as middle or bottom tier even though by every objective measure they are towards the top? Where is the outrage when girls jump on here and consistently rank the same houses as bottom or push undoubted top house down to middle? Yet when people point out an objective way to rank they are told it is not fair?

I think it is great that SGA doesn't just give blocks to our sororities and fraternities. Many other organizations on that list that surprised me. That is great. It also makes much more sense why there are not enough blocks for everyone. Now everyone needs to stay for 4. I am not sure how I missed all of this last year but I was up in freshmen in the upper bowl.
