block stadium seating
by: RTRInteresting to see the seating chart for games and not see all the houses. I didn't realize that not all houses had it and just assumed that we would all have a place to sit for games. Happy my new house does but why not all? Is it based on house numbers or a lottery? My other pref house doesn't seem to have seating and it seems to be a good popular house. I don't want to sound stupid asking at my house so I will try here first.

Block seating used to be all fraternities/student orgs until sororities started applying. Placement of blocks are based off GPA, extracurriculars/involvement, and size of organization. Since sororities tend to have better grades and involvement, they tend to get blocks closer to the front (explains why AXO alpha gam and aopi are in the front row).
Some sororities opt not to because of tradition, and if you have a game day date you’ll sit in the fraternity’s block. Either way, it doesn’t really matter as a freshman because there’s no block seating in upper bowl.

The seating relies on GPA and also involvement. People are saying it is no big deal because they don't have it. There are houses here that don't do anything on campus besides getting high and drunk every day. So many people trying to bury posts and put up ranks that elevate houses that are invisible on campus except in the bars and frat houses in the early morning hours. We all party and go out just some of us can also be leaders on campus and are involved in other things. To find the all around involved and respected sororities, look at the seating chart. That is where rankings should start. While PNM should not make their choices based on seating, this should be bumped up next August since it is more than a seat at a game. Check out those groups that make up the front rows. See who is missing completely. It tells a big story.

I think it is great that SGA doesn't just give blocks to our sororities and fraternities. Many other organizations on that list that surprised me. That is great. It also makes much more sense why there are not enough blocks for everyone. Now everyone needs to stay for 4. I am not sure how I missed all of this last year but I was up in freshmen in the upper bowl.

On the flip side of this, for some houses with less impressive stats it’s much less embarrassing to not apply at all than to apply and be given nothing or two rows at the very back. I know my house doesn’t bother.
