bid day
by: ?What happens if your bid is from a sorority that you do not want to be in?

If you decline the bid, you're still bound to it for a year, meaning you aren't eligible for snaps, COB or spring rush. Might as well give it a try!
Another thing -- listing them is your indication to the sorority that you'd accept a bid. If you decline it, you will have caused them to waste it. Worse, you'll have caused another girl not to get a bid from them, and she might have really, really wanted it. Turning down a bid you indicated you'd take isn't going to help you if you rush again. Sorority members have friends in other chapters, and the Panhellenic community is smaller than some think when it comes to word getting around about things. You don't want to be a PNM the sororities know rushed before and caused one to waste a bid.
Plenty of girls have taken bids to houses they didn't think they'd like, only to find out they really didn't like them. The LOVED them and can't believe they ever thought they'd be happier somewhere else. Don't walk away -- you've got nothing to gain if you do, but probably a lot to lose. You might have a lot to gain by taking it, so go let yourself be welcomed and loved by a couple of hundred girls who really want you!!!!

If you go to the house you don't want and act all sad and like you're too good for the house you'll hate it and they're not going to like you even though they thought they saw something in you that they loved. To be honest, you don't have many other choices. To be brutally honest the other houses didn't want you. Your choices are decline the bid or take it. If you decline hoping for a snap bid -- you're too late. Those have already been given out by now. You can COB but the houses that do that are few and not the top ones that you want. Recruitment next year will end no differently. Sophomores that do get bids are ones that are transferring in -- not ones that the houses rejected as freshmen. So if you decline you will be unlikely EVER to participate in greek life.
OK, so you can accept the bid from the house you don't like and go over there and meet the girls. In these huge classes you WILL find girls you love. You can work from the inside to make it a wonderful house. I saw a suggestion from someone to look on facebook at other chapters of that house. See that every house is a top house somewhere and will be impressive when you tell people your affiliation. PLUS every house here is filled with amazing girls who want you to be their sister. Don't just give them a week to prove themselves. You run to their house and act happy until you can make yourself happy with that house. There are no houses here filled with rejects.

all over this board have been crying and begging for information because they were released or only had 1 house left and are terrified they won't even get a bid. You're LUCKY at this school to even be offered one. Girls would kill for a chance to be Greek here, so don't waste your chance!!! I know you hear it a lot and you might not even believe us but I PROMISE PROMISE PROMISE you will find things to love about every sorority! And no sorority is perfect so if there are things you aren't thrilled about, there would still be downsides to your top choice as well! TAKE THE BID. SMILE. TALK TO GIRLS. YOU'LL MAKE FRIENDS.

I was told not to suicide even if I didn't want to be in the other house. I would rather withdraw completely if I don't get my top.
