mb and mobile love

by: MBgirlforever

A lot of resentment towards girls from Mountain Brook and Mobile on this page lately. The reason they only go Tri Delt, Kappa, and KD is because of tradition and loyalty. These 3 sororities are the most exclusive at UA because they have been so for about 100 years, and since UA loves tradition , the tradition continues. The tradition is more than Greek life too, it is family. In Tri Delt a lot of girls are 3rd and 4th generation Tri Delts at UA. Open a UA yearbook from 1920 and you will find many of the same family names in the sorority then as you do now. It is the same for fraternities like SAE, Phi Gam, and DKE. Some of the same names from 1850 are the names you still find today. Girls in KD or Tri Delt aren’t trying to be non-inclusive, they just want to uphold their family traditions and carry on their legacy. That is very important to many girls from MB and Mobile. There is nothing wrong with that. Also, this isn’t restricted to only those sororities, other houses have traditions too. Instead of whining that you are not apart of some tradition from the 1800s, go and start one of your own.

Agree with this post with one exception. They are not the most exclusive. Those bids are not hardest to get. They are the middle of the old row group or even the lower (kd now).

Different sororities that have high return rates emphasize different things. Some recruit strongly for grades (like AXO). Some recruit strongly for family connections (like KD). Some are more of a mix (like XO and DDD). A house that is harder for some people is going to be easier for others.

I agree with what you're saying other than being most exclusive, to me exclusive implies difficult to get into, but you're saying they're more likely to take girls from those areas. That actually means it's easier to get into those sororities if you're from a certain area/ legacy. That's an arbitrary requirement, not exactly exclusive in terms of only the best getting in.

This is without a doubt true. It is easier to get a bid to most OR sororities if you went to a certain HS or camp, even if you are not the most outstanding PNM on paper. Bottom line is you already know some girls in these houses and it helps.

“Connections” houses are not more exclusive if you define the word as elite.

I wanted to have an open mind but a few flat out cut me because I’m from there and went to a certain school.

I had good convos with some groups and was looking forward to go to their Philanthropy party and maybe make a big move. They cut me and many of my friends.
I know cuts like these happen for not a good fit, etc but this was just cuz I went to a certain prep school.

So of course I end up with the usual. It’s a good thing too for those traditions because some of us would end with nothing due to this dumbbbbb MB Mobile hate. I’m super happy where I am but it’s not like there was really a choice. We aren’t snobby at all if someone would actually give us a chance. Peace.

So mobile and mb girls end up at those houses because others cut them, assuming something they should not?

It’s the same with some OR legacies, especially in-house sisters. Houses will cut them early because they have to get numbers down and assume these girls will go to their legacy house. Some of these amazing women are down to 2-3 houses for philanthropy, just because of assumptions.

Yeah, I had legacies to different ones in my family. i should have been really making it super clear to non usual groups I loved them, like from the beginning. It went really fast. Like people say, all the houses are great here.

If you have an old-row in-house “sitting legacy” situation and you want to get invites from other old row houses, you need to be communicating that you are “open” to any and all of your friends in the other houses. You will still get cut from many, but the houses that are really interested in you will not be so quick to cut. It is an up hill battle though. The plus is that old row houses love to claim they “stole” a sitting legacy from one of the other old row houses.

How could there be multiple generations of family names? Do they never get married, never change their last name, or ????
