Hi everyone!
What can you tell us about Kappa, Alpha Phi, and DG at UA? Our little sister is a senior in HS and is planning on attending UA (and going through recruitment next year) :) Of course we will be happy with whatever she chooses, but we would just love to know how our houses are in the south <3
We all went to Big10 schools, so we are not as familiar with sororities in your area.

Kappa is very old and established. Alpha Phi and DG are relatively new. Alpha Phi has done an extremely good job recruiting since they arrived at Alabama. DG has a beautiful new house, still to soon to forecast how they will do. They have very good alumni support. I would not limit myself to just three sororities. There are 16 very good houses at Alabama. Why narrow it to three a year out?

To clarify, APhi and DG both recolonized -- APhi was chartered in the early 1930s and came back in 2008; DG came to campus in the late 1940s and returned in 2011. So far, both are doing extremely well and have great girls, although people who think tiers matter consider them on the low end on the social ladder just because they're newer and, well, it's Bama.
Kappa is one of the so-called Old Row sororities -- exclusive and hard to get in without family money and connections. On the other hand, they're considerably more open to out-of-state girls than their main competition.
As Answer said, though, all the houses that do formal recruitment are strong and good and have a lot to offer.

Oh, we arent trying to narrow! Sorry if it seemed that way. We were just curious as to what our houses were like at UA. There are 4 of us girls in the family, and three of us all pledged different sororities, so we HIGHLY encourage her to keep an open mind and pledge wherever she wants :) We came across the site when we were helping her with researching colleges.

All the houses at UA are amazing. kKG is considered "old row" and the others are "new row" but that doesn't necessarily mean one is better than the other. It just means KKG is considered more traditional as a group, but even this is not in an individual member basis. If she rushes at UA she will have nothing but great sororities to choose from! They really don't care about grades! I told one of the girls I had 2 majors and a 4.0 and she looked at me like I was a freak... I can say I got dropped after first round, but had a full schedule of supposedly "great" houses. I didn't think being smart was a bad thing until I came to their house...

It's a bit deceptive. When all is said and done there isn't a strong sisterhood, they just haven't had time. They do have a beautiful house but that would be a stupid reason to choose a house as they all will have a new house within two years. So you pick a sorority because of a house and before you know it the sorority you may have fit in with the best has a nicer house and you are stuck with a bunch of random girls. Really, use your head!
KD is established but they don't like northern girls and are considered the worst of "old row". Too many girls drop because of their snotty behavior.

Truthful has issues with these 3 sororities so she is bashing. Would love to know which sorority she is in so you would stay away from it. All three are very good. There is always someone who wants to say something negative but most of the sorority glrls here are about true sisterhood!

DG is currently involved in their first formal recruitment so that is over stating the truth a bit. Kappa is older and more established. Alpha Phi is doing very well for a newer sorority. DG has a beautiful house and seem to be doing well, also. Three good groups.
