pref question

by: Final 2

Once you get your final 2, is it really in the hands of the pnm to choose and get what they prefer? How does this work? In other words, will you get what you want most of the time with only 2?

50/50. You are ranking the last two but those last two are also ranking you. If they have enough girls ranked ahead of you that also have them ranked first, then you’re going to your second choice. If you’re not on either’s top list but you did not suicide, you’ll go to whichever house had you ranked higher.

An important point: No sorority knows how you rank them at any round. So your ranking one higher than the other at pref does not influence your position on a bid list. Suiciding, or putting down only one house when you have two, DOES NOT HELP, and can leave you out of Greek life entirely. If you aren't high enough on your suicide house's bid list then that's it; but, if you rank both houses (or only the one if that's what you have) then you are at least guaranteed a bid and will not be left out of Greek life.

Well, how many girls return to pref vs. how many are on first bid list?

The first bid list is whatever Quota is. Quota is determined after prefs when all the PNM's have signed their cards, and then bid matching commences. No house ever matches to every girl on their first bid list (this is where PNM's choices come in), so they then go on down through their ranked list, matching until they reach Quota. The better recruiting chapters don't have to go very far down their ranked lists and that's why they take fewer girls to pref. Every girl who attends a pref is on that house's bid list somewhere; that's why if you don't suicide you are guaranteed a bid, even if it puts a house over quota (called Quota Additions.)

Differs vastly depending on the house. Some will have more pref parties than others.

That is how a house like kd or kappa has to take quota additions.?

Yes. Quota Additions are for the benefit of the PNM's to ensure that everyone who ranks all her pref houses gets a bid. No one is invited to pref if the house doesn't want her as a sister at all.

Do sororities construct their bid list before or after pref

After. They don't know who is coming to their pref until they get their party lists. They can only make a bid list based on who attended their pref. They also need to know what quota is before they submit their ranked lists.

After. However the list that is submitted after sisterhood is arguably more important because if a pnm is invited to pref, she may get a bid. Houses have to make sure they are comfortable with any girl they invite to pref being in their chapter. After pref, there’s no cutting, just ranking.

How many girls would attend a sisterhood party at a bigger house (say chi o, axo, KD) then how many to pref, if quota is usually around 130.

Is this same for smaller houses? Thanks!

The invitations to rounds are not based on trying to get to a certain quota number. Quota is determined AFTER everything is said and done. We can predict and get close through Release Figure Methodology, which determines how many invitations each house may issue at every round, based on past and current return rates. Stronger recruiting houses can count on higher return rates so they must offer fewer invitations to each round. It is not anything you need to worry about unless you are on the recruitment team for your sorority.

Nope!! There’s one house that doesn’t vote after pref so if you’re at their pref, that’s probs the house you’ll end up. Happened to me and it was my last choice house. I preffed my top choice house and still ended up where I am.

@Not at all - You didn't get your top choice house because you weren't high enough on their bid list before they reached quota. You may not have even been high enough on your last choice's bid list either and ended up there as a quota addition. The rest of what you say makes no sense whatsoever, so yeah, you do sound like you are smoking something...
