grades

by:

Hi, I just graduated from high school, but taking a gap year for a missions thing I’m doing. I’m planning on going to bama next year and rushing. I have a 2.90 gpa. How likely am I to get into a house and which one would be likely to take me or would it even be worth it to rush? Just trying to get an opinion here. Also just a side note, I’m a triple legacy from a top sorority, and I am from Birmingham.

VERY hard to get in anywhere with a GPA under 3.2. Your best bet is to have letters of support IN ADDITION TO your recs, and be sure the letters explain WHY your GPA was low.
It would be great if your missions work was appreciated by every sorority but unfortunately most will not understand since it’s outside the norm. I hate that , but it’s the tea and you need to know. The girls doing the voting are young, not fully formed and for most part they value looks, grades, conformity.

This may hurt your feelings but it's better you hear it now. Your GPA is way too low for any house to even consider you. I almost guarantee the cut-off next year will be 3.5. Girls like to throw around legacy but truthfully it does not matter nearly as much as you would like to believe. Nobody really cares about your mom/grandma/aunt etc.

Try and take some college classes during your gap year. Study hard and get good grades and it may show you will be able to be successful going forward.

I agree...don’t think 2.9 is going to make it anywhere at Bama.

You'll wind up with 2 or maybe 3 sororities after first round. I've seen that a bunch of times already this year.
