question about quota

by:

Everyone is saying Kappa has to take more girls than PM, KD, XO and DDD because they couldn’t fill their class last year. Is this true? Do they get more spots?

Kappa didn’t make quota last year

Quota last year has nothing to do with quota this year. Quota won't be determined until after pref.

They lost out a bunch last year at pref

So? Doesn't mean they will this year.

Kappa is 4th or 5th in terms of size. Not taking quota doesn’t necessarily look great but as long as they’re above the new chapter total, which they will be, it doesn’t really matter.

There are the same amount of 'spots' for every house as far as quota goes. No house has a different quota than any other.

quota is the same for everyone. it's based on the number of pnm's that last to preference

If quota is the same how did Theta and DZ end up with over quota last year?

Release Figure Methodology (RFM) benefits the girl at prefs. If a PNM goes to one or two houses at pref, has ranked each and every house during recruitment and has attended every invite, she is then guaranteed a bid to one of the houses at pref. Even if that PNM is not on the top bid lists of either house (the house has made quota before matching her name in the top order), she will become a quota addition. The PNM will never know she was a quota addition, very very few exec members on recruitment will figure out she was a quota addition. By day 2 it won’t matter. She is now a new member/ sister and will enjoy her new home! The reason Theta and DZ usually get quota additions is they have, historically, released fewer girls during the recruitment process. Therefore, they have more parties during the week to provide for those added number of PNM’s. Other houses with historically higher return rates release more PNM’s during the week and might have only 3-4 pref parties over 5-6 that other houses might have.

Quota additions. Houses that are weaker during rush (it’s not a diss, just the truth) generally take a decent percentage of girls to pref that are only preffing that house. Those girls are guaranteed a bid to that house per panhellenic policy. That means that even if a PNM would not usually make it on to a sorority’s bid list, she will be added on after matching is over because that’s her only house.

This also helps the houses because generally they’re the same chapters who have retention issues.

Oh, and the rumor the OP started that Kappa didn’t make quota is false. Other houses had a few more quota additions ( it happens to each and every house now that we do RFM). But, the houses that are bulging at the seams will not participate in COB, as they are well over chapter total.
