I feel like the good and bad things on this website tend to be pretty accurate BUT not in reference to Kappa. People on this website always praise Kappa for being top, top tier and taking out of state girls, being fun and welcoming etc etc
Straight Facts:
Kappa will choose an Alabama girl 90% of the time over an out of state girl.
There are a few IT girl friend groups in Kappa and if you’re not in it you’re kinda irrelevant
Partying is a focus in this house (not a bad thing tbh) and they tend to not be the most involved house on campus whether it’s Greek Week or Derby Days or whatever
Mountains Brook girls who love DKE and SAE will dominate.
I’m not AT ALL trying to bash Kappa. They are a really fun group of girls but I just want pnms to know that they don’t deserve to be on this pedestal for “taking so many out of state girls” when that’s barely the case

The thing about Kappa is they pick girls who best for Kappa. Some are connected and are in-state girls who will continue to help the Alabama chapter as alums (that is very important to ALL chapters here). Some might be a total package out of state girl. Some might not have money, but they’re funny as h€ll and have good grades and aren’t awkward in social settings. Some might be a legacy from another chapter. They don’t put a big deal on grades. They don’t make a big deal on looks. They don’t make a big deal on family money. They DO make a big deal on personality and social skills. That’s what makes Kappa a strong choice.

If you’re not from Mt Brook or Mobile you will most likely not be happy in Kappa. They have the highest amount of filler girls of any Old Row house. They’ll target 40-50 girls they really want and then backfill with randoms. The randoms are excited they got in and then quickly realize they were never really wanted.

Soooo, were you a Kappa at Alabama? Are you speaking from first-person knowledge? I can only guess your answer is no. Build your house. Stop trying to tear down others.

this is spot on. I know girls who realize once they get in that kappa couldn’t care less about them

Not every house works this way. My house has a broader target list - there’s probably 400 girls we’re genuinely interested in. We do more research on the front end so we have a huge list of girls we think we’d be happy with. My friend said Kappa’s slideshow is like 70 girls and they put all their effort into that group. Not all 70 will pledge of course, so they spend pref night looking at what’s left and throwing together a bid list that’s 1/3 who they really wanted and 2/3 randos.

The clique for Kappa’s new class has already formed. Those girls met during rush parties last year. It’s the same thing every year - the Mobile/Montgomery clique will be the faces in the door song next year and they’ll hold all the exec spots. I guess Kappa’s appeal is that PNMs don’t realize this until they’ve already pledged. I think that’s why they pull so many from OOS and OOR. They know those girls won’t go head to head with the Mobile/Montgomery crew for power in the house.
