being honest
by: Being honest
It is fair to give accurate descriptions here to pnms. Yes, there are academics and partiers in every sorority. Yes, you can make the best of anything.
But as we all know, some places fit types better. A non-drinker will find more similar friends in certain houses. Girls wanting to party will be bored in a sorority that doesn’t so much etc. Girls may not be comfortable in chapters with large high school cliques present.
It’s not a cut to any, just being honest is helpful.

You definitely don’t want to be in a party focused sorority if you don’t drink - especially freshman year when you are making friendships and everything is new.
I agree about cliques- have heard of lots of hurt feelings and feeling alone.
Things get better after freshman year.

The story of the Vermont mom proves this. The daughter didn’t know what she was getting into and told her mom. Obviously, the story was changed, fudged, etc. but any clear thinking person knows what happened bc of the innocent post made by mom.
This is not to say certain sororities are awful... but to say try and know what you are getting. And likewise, a party girl will not like ones that aren’t big partiers. Everyone has parties- but there is a BIG difference in the atmosphere and who they party with.
Cliques are mainly in certain sororities- mainly 2 which I won’t name. Just continuation of high school.

That’s not true. From the time of pledging, certain sororities create an atmosphere that lends to a different vibe. Sure you can do your own thing, but the group will be elsewhere. The fraternities they swap with are wilder, the involvement in on -campus activities is less AS A GROUP ... that may or may not for you and you deserve to know.
If you want to be active, here’s who is and isn’t. If you want to swap with wilder fraternities, here’s who does and doesn’t. If you want a focus on pledging to be drinking based, there are definitely places where it is and isn’t. If you want more sisterhood, there are places with fewer cliques etc

I agree. I joined a house that is not known for academic achievement, thinking that I’d find a group of friends to go to the library with and the overall rep of the house wouldn’t affect me. I did find the other studious girls in my house, but I really underestimated the apathy the majority of my house has towards grades and school in general. It’s extremely embarrassing every time the grade report comes out and we are near the bottom and no one cares and then we still keep recruiting girls with bad GPAs. Make sure you are joining a house that really aligns with what’s important to you.
