mental illness is sororities
by: NervousIm honestly curious if this is ever even talked about. I've struggled with depression and panic attacks for years. It's mostly under control with meds, exercise and therapy. Should I keep this to myself? Obviously not going to broadcast it during recruitment. I'd like to think that in such huge houses there has to be more girls like me. There were some really mean girls who tortured and made fun of me after I had a major panic attack at school and my "best friend" told everyone everything. There is so much more to me than this, I won't let it define me. Just hoping a get a bid and can meet some people who can relate.

Obviously don’t mention it during recruitment. However, I am an active at a house and this past summer attempted suicide due to depression and anxiety. Now obviously I didn’t broadcast it to the whole chapter, but I did tell a few close friends and the sorority president just for safety concerns. Everybody was so accepting and loving with open arms. Obviously not every house will have people like this because some are stuck in the 80s when mental illness was considered a “sin” by some. But I love my house and am grateful for all of the love and support that they gave me in the hardest time of my life. Those downvotes are probably from pretty rich girls who are terrified of a real disease. Don’t worry. You will find your home.

Chill Stop Right There. I was pretty much saying the same thing and trying to be supportive and positive when I truthfully said SOME. I did go on to say that there were mental issues (some of the same ones you mentioned) in every house and that typically houses give support.
You are right, there are plenty of women, including high achievers, that have mental issues in our houses, like I said, but SOME student with biological mental issues that kicked in from birth or HS and are barely able to keep it together, yet are still trying to get through college, and yes, SOME of these would come into college with grades that would be too low to get into any of our houses. I was pretty much stating an obvious truth, but like you, I wanted the OP to realize that beyond that stereotyped body, there are girls with a variety of issues in every house and these issues are expected (hence the mention of my houses online services)and sort of typical in all houses.
I stand by what I said, grades will eliminate some with mental issues, but every house has girls struggling with a variety of issues.

Take your 'L' and move on. Sounds like you will easily crack under pressure during recruitment. Your best bet is to join a club or something.
