how many girls live in each house?

by:

Being able to live in my sophomore year is really important so I was wondering if someone had a complete list of all the houses and how many girls get to live in? I’ve done a little research and most seem to be 60-70. That’s much smaller than the pledge class is isn’t it?

Some houses have sophomores only live in, some houses allow all three years to live in, some houses have only upperclassmen in. The one common thread is GPA. The higher the grades, the more likely you will get to live in. If it is super important that you live in for your sophomore year, that is a good question to ask during recruitment.

About 60-to -70 live in each house. As you note smaller than pledge classes (about 135) and overall size (about 400).

ALL actives must buy a meal plan through the house so you will see more than just the girls who live in the house at meals.

It really depends on the house. In mine, enough girls want to live out that if you want to live in it’s super easy. Some girls even do two or three years. In kappa, they expect sophomores to live in so if you are older and not on exec you can plan on living out. In alpha gam, it’s huge to live in as a senior so it’s hard to get a spot as a junior, let alone as a sophomore.

Tldr each house has a specific method so I wouldn’t let this influence your rush too much. You may end up loving a house where living in sophomore year is impossible but that doesn’t mean you won’t eventually.

Usually certain officers are required to live in - president, treasurer, house manager and a few others, no matter what class they are. Freshmen don't live in because they're already in a housing contract with the university.

I wouldn’t choose your house based on living in sophomore in. You’ll shut the doors on a lot of great houses that you might have to be a junior or senior to live in. But 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m rushing in the fall and I’m surprised the houses don’t sleep more girls with having such high numbers. I have several friends going to Arkansas and their sororities generally sleep 90+. Anyone know why bama houses are smaller?

Arkansas houses aren’t larger. They have waaaay more land to build on, which allows them to build the houses in shapes that max out bedrooms (for example Pi Phi’s L shaped house). Also houses at UA have very few triples or quads, if any at all, and many have singles.

I personally think 90+ is kind of a lot, especially if rush numbers go back down, but each school also has different needs.

I wish we had more rooms. Our house is highly competitive to live in and even if pledge classes dropped to a manageable 80 it would still be hard to get in.
