Yes, a few houses might have some open spots after pref. They will then offer “snap bids” to girls who do not have a bid or may fallen through earlier in the week. Snap bids are an amazing second chance for both the girls and the sororities!! This can happen to any sorority so if you fall through, Lee your name on the list!!!!

Snap bids are a GREAT option for girls that may have dropped lower houses earlier in the week and then got dropped by higher houses. Don’t look at a snap bid as an insult - it’s a house that really liked you giving you a second chance. It’s a BLESSING!

Agree that KKG and DDD prob have highest return rates overall, but this is for a couple of reasons. First, they are very strong national sororities that are not only top at Bama but also top a lot of other places. Second, they are the two OR sororities that are not only traditionally strong for in state and connected girls, but also known to be most open to OOS PNMs. KD, AGD and XO are known to be more specifically southern.
But for PNMs who come in with an idea of what kind of house they are interested in, this may not apply.
For example,
For the most academic PNMs, I’d say AXO, XO and AGD are most wanted because they are top three in grades
And for the PNMs most interested in being in a “looks” house, PM and ZTA are most wanted.
For the traditional in state and connected crowd, all old row (except maybe PM) are equally desired, but it depends very heavily on where you are from which house you are most drawn to. As has been mentioned here many times, different OR houses attract PNMs from different cities.

From my groups and talking to people during rush everyone mostly said they loved KKG and DDD. I also think it’s because the people I talked to said they talked to a really nice girl compared to other houses where the active would make them feel less welcomed

The top mountain brook, mobile and Montgomery pnms do not rate agd, pmu and ddd high like they rate kd kkg and xo. They have lots of mommy pressure to go with the traditional connections houses. That is truth.

Remember, the typical pledge class is around 135 girls and more than 2000 girls are involved in recruitment.
There are a few broadly appealing houses that “everyone” wants.
But there are also a number of love/hate houses - that some girls really love and want although many others are turned off.
So back to the numbers. With 2000 girls in recruitment if just 25 percent fall in love with a house you have 500 girls wanting a spot in a pledge class with 135 openings.
Doesn’t matter that a notable majority of girls aren’t interested it’s going to feel really competitive amongst the twenty five percent or 500 who really are.
By comparisons there are houses that “run together” and give more of a “I’d be okay there” vibe. People end up “happy” in those houses although they may have been more ambivalent amongst the group and if they landed there or in four or five other similar houses. In general, if sub these are described as the “nice” houses, because they do attract girls with fewer strong feelings/opinions who are content.
Think the Op does a decent job of separating the broad appeal (top); from the more limited bit stronger appeal and competitive (second); to the I’ll take one or the other third and fourth.
Personally, I’d definitely move XO and KD down a level. May move PM up - still believe many just want to see how far they can get with them. And Definitely APhi up, they epitomize the point of more than enough girls to make getting a bid competitor although there are also many who aren’t interested. \n\n\n\n\n

In real life (not Greek rank BS life) more girls want XO or KD than PM. If you’ve met one Phi Mu you’ve met them all, meaning they’re just carbon copies of each other. XO and KD have more diversity (I don’t mean race, I mean looks, personality, etc). They have broader appeal.

But they are also more focused on instate and near states.

With every passing year, OOS girls make up a greater and greater percentage of PNMs. The houses that want to remain “top” need to make sure they have a healthy mix of girls from many different places, so they can identify and draw “top” girls from more and more places. KKG and DDD are doing the best job of this so far. The issue with KD, XO and AGD is that, although they still get a good number of their “top” PNMs from the areas they know well, they don’t do nearly as well with PNMs from further away. And they don’t get enough of their top known PNMs to fill their pledge class. So they end up having more fillers from other places that just aren’t that strong. And the overall pledge class suffers.

I would agree until last fall. They had a really hard time because they had to take a lot of girls. They took a lot that weren't up to their usual standards on looks and a lot of the face girls ended up dropping. They're still trying to figure out how to rebuild and Zeta and G Phi scooped up some of the ones that A Phi would have easily gotten before.
