The houses that are most focused on in state girls tend to have the best retention. It’s just a fact. I don’t think it makes them better or worse.

The more open a house is to out of state PNMs, the more likely it is that some of those OOS girls will move closer to home at some point.

Some OOS girls pledge certain houses with that in mind. For example, pi Phi is a top house at UT, so a girl from Texas who didn’t get into UT Austin (hard school to get into even for in state residents) might come here for her freshman year and pledge Pi Phi, then after a year or two, will try to transfer into UT. It happens a fair amount.

If you think retention is the number one criteria, then you are going to be drawn to the most in state houses. I personally like to have girls from all over in my house and it’s worth the risk.

All OR houses have a majority of OOS members. Not true that OR is mostly in state.

Majority OOS, maybe. But that’s also majority Deep South for most old row houses. The Memphis and Atlanta private school pipelines are OOS. Houses like gphi, alpha phi, DZ, are majority northern/midwestern/west coast and it absolutely makes a difference.

And houses that are strong nationally like theta, tri delt, pi phi and kappa are more likely to have legacies from all over, compared to more southern houses like kd and alpha gam

Now you know as well as everyone else that legacy doesn't translate into getting a bid. A legacy is just another pnm with some family letters. Has nothing to do with OOS. Once you're in your won sorority you are no longer a legacy to another.

I wouldn’t read too much into one year’s worth of numbers. Last year at this time, the three old row houses with the most drops were XO, then KD, then KKG.

None of the houses here have problems with retention. One NR house had a problem last year but seems to be rebounding.
