frats

The short answer is any of them. The longer answer is each fraternity recruits to a certain criteria in its members and geography isn't necessarily one of the criteria. Having said that, yes there are certain houses that recruit primarily from certain southern areas and it will be harder to get noticed by them. There are certain houses where being a legacy is very important and they get first consideration. What is important here is Fraternities do not have quotas like sororities. Each fraternity decides how many pledges they want to take in per year and for many of them their pledge classes are full before Fall Semester even starts, this is very common for the houses on University. They may set a goal of 30, 40, or 50 pledges but if they don't reach it they are fine with it as long as the ones they pledge meet the criteria they are looking for in its members.
The best advice I can give you is reach out to rush chairman of all the houses you are interested in, so they know you are interested. Let them know if you are going to be in town over the summer and would welcome an opportunity to meet with them. Even though REC letters are mostly a tool used by sororities, but if you know some alumni from a particular fraternity have them send a rush recommendation on your behalf.
The critical takeaway is reach out to them and give them a chance to meet you. That way you will both determine if you are the right fit to join them. Yes, because you are not from Alabama or the immediate surrounding states will hurt you with certain houses however there are plenty of great houses that have taken many members from New York. DON'T wait until fall rush opportunities as it will be too late for you with many of the houses.
