by:

Here’s how many girls stick around and don’t drop out after freshman or sophomore year. This is your sisterhood ranking and it’s based on actual membership numbers, so it’s not subjective.

AXO: 448 members
XO: 448 members
KD: 441 members

PhiMu: 427 members
KKG: 423 members
DG: 422 members
AGD: 414 members

PiPhi: 394 members
DDD: 391 members
ZTA: 390 members
KAT: 389 members

AOPi: 369 members
ADPi: 368 members
GPhi: 364 members
APhi: 351 members
DZ: 322 members

Sisterhood absolutely plays a part in retention. However it’s also important to remember that houses with high in state numbers will naturally have bigger membership and vice versa. Local girls have a lot of societal pressure to get bids to and become alums of certain houses and are more likely to actually stay at UA. Unfortunately many OOS girls decide Alabama isn’t for them, and the ones who stay don’t have as much pressure to be a member for all 4 years.

So yes, not really subjective, but there are also a lot of factors at play.

The more oos girls in a house the more girls that find they can't afford to stay here, can't stand to leave their boyfriend, etc. and move back oos. Instate girls stay because they already know those things. So you are confusing causation and correlation.

Your list is meaningless without showing the rise and fall of numbers between semesters. Not every chapter chooses to pledge up to the maximum so a snapshot of total doesn't mean anything. If you know anything about membership you would know that.

99 percent of all statistics only tell 49 percent of the story.

Is there a drop report? All I’ve ever seen is the grade report. Don’t some girls graduate after fall semester? How many on average? 20 + or - a few? Do all sororities let you drop at the semester? (I’ve heard that there are some that won’t let you drop until the end of spring.) Also, with houses having 400+ members, I would expect 5% not to be happy at the school, have a change in their financial situation, or be unhappy with the house. (Unhappy with their house means to me that they have a personal sisterhood issue, don’t like all the rules, etc.) 5% of 400 is 20, so 40 + or - a few would be normal? It looks to me like everyone is falling in the normal range.

Everyone bids to quota, so this absolutely shows retention rates.

Not every house uses all of upper classmen quota. Retention rate is the percentage over time of members joining and then dropping and graduating, not the total in a house at one point. A better way is probably to compare spring totals with those returning in fall. Some houses pledge huge numbers during fall rush to get closer to total so looking at differences between fall and spring grade reports doesn't really show anything.

Some higher ranked houses must be on here constamtly try to justify their falling numbers. I will point out, some have had bad numbers for a couple of years, yet are still ranked high. PNMs, anyone can throw out a ranking, alumna, mamas, and sliding houses desperately want you to believe their false story.

The bottom four houses have around 80 less members than top houses. This is the true cost of making bottom house members feel bad about belonging to their house. These houses cost al lot of money, then to have others constantly make them feel bad anout belinging.... no wonder they drop out. All houses are fantastic here!

Would not have expected DG to have nearly 30 more members than other New Row houses and DDD to have that many less members than the other Old Row ones. Good on APhi too for starting to work their retention rates and getting closer in size to the other houses!
