rec letters & recruitment tips?

by:

How do I go about getting rec letters if i'm not a legacy or know anybody who's an alum? And do rec letters play a huge roll in what houses you'll get back? Also, I'm not looking to get into any specific sorority whether it's "top" or "low" tier, but does anyone have any tips on what to do to make the best impression you can during rush week & how to make sure you find a house that suits you best?

Ask your neighbors, your parents’ friends, your friends’ parents and your teachers. I guarantee you will find several that way. You can also look on Facebook for alumnae groups in your area for each house and contact them directly. Usually if you send them your resume they can connect you someone to write a rec for you.

As competitive as recruitment is you really want at least two recs for every house. And just because an alum says she’ll write you a rec it doesn’t mean she will follow through. Ask three or four people from each house to write them so you have a better chance with actually getting one or two.

Don't discount the fact that men know sorority women! There are probably sorority women surrounding you but no one knows it because it just never came up, so people just gotta ask and see who steps up! There are also sororities that do accept recs from initiated actives at a different chapter from where you are rushing as long as they are in good membership standing, so that'll get the job done too.

Go to national website and find nearest alumna group. Contact them and ask if any members are available to meet you and write a rec.
