What exactly IS a swap?

Are the swaps the things you dress up for? Like in costumes? Do you need a date to a swap? Does your date have to be from a certain frat? Where are swaps held? Is this a weekly thing? Are these the same things as date parties? Do you have to dance a certain way? Fill us in! Somebody told me I need to learn to swing dance but I wasn't sure if she was joking!
