cuts after iwt

by:

Can a high GPA / SAT, rec letters, and a decent amount (not extreme) of involvement in high school stop me from getting cut from “upper” houses if that’s all I have? I don’t have any connections to this school and I feel like my looks are average or below average. I know you guys don’t always like questions like this but I don’t know where else to ask. Thanks!

do what you can to brush up on your looks. highlight your hair, whiten your teeth, practice conversation, get great rush clothes that actually flatter YOU.

How are your conversation skills? Are you cute/attractive and likeable? Do you have a background that will allow you to talk about things that are similar to those in the houses you (at least think) you want?

You get moved along based on how you relate to the people that you talk to. Bad grades can prevent you from moving on, but this isn’t acceptance based on credentials - especially if you are unknown.

The girls you meet are gong to have to like you - plain and simple.

Another one? Stop whining about "upper" and "lower" houses. They're all good. Take what you get and don't throw a fit. Be happy you get a bid at all and make the most of it. Your attitude is what will make your house great or horrible for you.

If you have no ties to any house, why would you care which house you get into? Why wouldn't the house that loved you so much that they put you at the top of their list, resulting in a bid for membership, be your favorite over all other houses that did not love you as much?
