sorority reps

by:

okay listen up pnms. There are definitely tiers of sororities at this school whether people want to admit it or not. Be prepared to answer "... so what sorority are you in???" the first few months here, and yes some people will judge you for your answer. But I promise this goes away so fast once people go through the year and learn that stereotypes are stupid and most the time not at all true. Its college and people mature and eventually the question about what sorority you're in won't even be brought up in a conversation. Please don't be the girl to drop out of rush or after you get your bid because you didn't get the house you wanted. Each pledge class is so big and you will find people who can become you're closest friends if you just give it the chance instead of basing your happiness off a rank. College is going to go by so fast so make the best of it! We have the best/ biggest greek life in the country so every house is great and will have girls in it that are like you!

Yes, Alabama has the largest Greek life, but unfortunately, the most throat-cutting recruitment. Many PNM's will feel destroyed after that week and some may not recover. It is a tough thing to do to 18-year-olds who are just starting out. I hear about so much heart-break before and after recruitment. Many, many will experience the biggest disappointment of their lives. I know..get over it. I know a few friends who ended up in therapy! Hang on, it may be a rough ride!

Y'all really out there making it sound like Mad max or something. It's not that deep. Everyone who wants to be in a sorority will get into a sorority, assuming they aren't a grade or reputation risk. Yes, there are some PNMs who feel like they have to be in a specific sorority or life is over for them, but that is such a very small minority compared to those who just want to be somewhere. Of course they're sad when a house they liked drops them, and maybe there are even a few tears, but the majority of people who go through recruitment don't see this as a life changing event, and they cry it out and move on.

Whoever on here is making it sound like this is somehow going to make or ruin the rest of your life has the mentality of a rock, is trying to be scary or dramatic, but obviously has never been through recruitment at Alabama.

Info Source: Been through recruitment, been on the other side in recruitment, and has been a Rho Chi.
