question about letters of recommendation

by:

New here and need to know if you have to get recommendations to get a bid. I have heard not really and also that I need to get them. I'm out of state but have great grades and activities.

You’re going to get in to a sorority no matter what. About 1% of girls mismatch or drop out. If you’re so inclined, get rec’s, but unless you’re gunning for a big name soro, I wouldn’t bother.

Worst advice ever. Get a rec for every damn house if you want a chance at them. If you can’t find an alum for certain houses, reach out to their alumni group and someone will help you.

Not getting refs for every house is lazy and will guarantee you a bid from DZ.

Get a rec for every single house you can. At my house no rec = dropped after round 1. The girls telling you you don’t need recs are in lower houses that are trying to catch top girls that may not understand how important recs are. They want you to get dropped by the top houses because you don’t have recs and then they will try to scoop you up. Don’t fall for that. Get your recs.

I suggest getting at least one if not two rec letters. The best way to get a rec letter would be to contact old bosses, post on Facebook, neighbors, family friends, etc to find an alum. The way I would describe the importance of a rec letter would be that is the cherry on top. To have a member of that sorority speak on your behalf looks amazing. Highly recommend getting rec letters, but if you have troubles finding one for each house, do not stress about it!

It makes perfect sense. You want in a good house? Get at least one rec and no more than three.

Okay but it literally doesn’t. Why are we going to act like Pi Phi is worse than AOPi and Theta?

When you understand NPC policy and the sorority National requirements for chapters to extend a bid you'll get it. Everything is not about the imagined rankings on Greek Rank.

It's not true that most of the sorority nationals require recs. KD doesn't. It's an Alabama thing, so if you are going to Alabama, go with recs.

Not true for Pi Phi, DG and Sigma Kappa. You need recs for all three. I see large numbers of rec-less girls joining Alpha Phi and Gamma Phi Bet a, so apparently it's not quite as important there.

Pi Phi nationals does not require a rec.

Thanks everyone. The info about the houses doesn't say which houses you have to have a rec for, so I'll try for all of them.
