easiest sorority to get a bid from?

by: Lala

I don’t want to set myself up for a letdown, so I want to be realistic during recruitment. I’m average grades, average looks and not a legacy. Which houses should I focus on?

ADPi is not like those others. GPhi is a slightly harder get, too.

Alpha Phi or Gamma Phi Beta. Sigma Kappa will be a little easier the next two or three years since they're new and building.

I'd disagree about Gamma Phi Beta. They've gotten lots more picky even just since I've been here. A Phi had a pretty big catastrophe last year and lost a lot of girls this year so I agree with them. Also, Sigma Kappa will be easier as they build. No house is easy though and you have to be on your game to get a bid at all from any house here

I Think the answer you are looking for is the younger houses on campus do not have multiple generations of legacies you are competing with for a spot, where even being a legacy may not get you past day 1.

Each sorority has minimum academic requirements and since it is so competitive to get a bid, you need to be way above the minimum.

Looks is not as important, all you have to do is look at the 1000's of bid day pictures that are posted by newspapers and chapter social media to see there are many average looking girls.

Finally, can you afford it? Parents are told how much it will cost to be in a sorority with some houses more expensive then others. If you going to be struggling by with student loans, grants and part-time jobs that might be a red flag for you.

This is from a post made several years ago. I have made a few changes near the bottom.

Rush is a funnel process; mutual selection means that the most desired houses, typically Old Row + Pi Phi, ADPi and Zeta, make the heavy cuts in the beginning. These houses will release over 1000 pnms the first round and know for the most part who these people are before rush week starts. Basically, those houses tend to do the best at the end of the week and get what they are looking for, where as the others want to make quota.

Level 1:

KD- connections, family reputation, exclusivity

Kappa- connections, family reputation, party people

DDD- connections, family reputations, well-rounded and involved

XO- connections, family reputations, well-rounded, earthy

AXO- connections, attractiveness, grades, involvement

PM- connections, attractiveness, grades, involvement

AGD- connections, well-rounded, involved

Pi Phi- attractiveness, cool-factor, party people

ADPi- grades, involvement

Zeta- attractiveness, party people, would boys like you

--------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------------
Level 2:

DG, DZ, AOPi, Gamma Phi -whoever is decent and still available after level 1 funnel

--------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------------

Level 3:

Theta, Alpha Phi, Sigma Kappa- making quota

so if i have excellent grades, some leadership but average extracurriculars, and average / slightly below average looks, and no connections, could i get into any “Level 1” houses?

I would definitely say grades and involvement are really important in AGD and XO, especially since they have the #1 and #2 GPAs on the row alongside AXO. I think I heard AXO and XO actually make the biggest cuts first round based solely on grades, but who knows.

Also, PBP, zeta and adpi do not belong with the others on level 1. They would be top of level 2.

Everyone loves fo hate on Aphi for no reason... before pc ‘18 getting a bid from there was quite difficult. This past year they had to take girls out of their realm because of the recent scandal... I don’t think the case will be the same for pc ‘19

^^^^ See what GR is filled with...at least this mama didn't pretend she still goes here. This is outdated bs that confuses PNMs. Here is the truth: Bama has been academically focused for several years. Everyone immediately reads grade reports to compare houses. Your grades are important because all houses are compared on this very concrete measurement every semester. Low grade houses are looked down upon and are scrambling to bring in high gpa members. Grade reports also reveal changes in membership numbers. Anyone, including smart PNMs, can determine which houses have drama/issues when a ton of members drop, or houses continually have to bring in new members, revealing which supposedly mid-ranked houses loose members faster than the supposedly bottom GR ranked houses. With more OOS than instate students, attitudes about OOS and connections have changed. OR lost too many great women who did not like being in houses where everyone went to high school together or being called filler girls. So that has quickly changed and OR goes after OOS just as hard as NR. Do your homework on what houses are really like... not how GR says they rank.

OR houses aren't the houses losing members and needing to replace with cob. You are right about the grade reports though since those show the membership numbers.

So true about grade reports. Definitely saw some shockers in number drops that got everyone's attention.

Some sororities report their numbers accurately and others hide their drops until after the report is complete. Some sororities are masters of deceit, all that glitters is not gold.

The funnel process is the best description I've seen.
