From an earlier post, it's accurate In terms of social structure, history and tradition at UA:
"We don't have a new row or an old row for sororities. The equivalent of Old Row for sororities is First Circle. Old Row for sororities is just names on a T-shirt."
Technically there is not and never was an "old row" for sororities at UA, and many guys in DKE, KA, SAE and Phi Gam still never refer to the "old row" sororities, only just the 3 First Circle sororities. This is also why these fraternities hang out, date, and marry First Circle girls the most...they have the most tradition with them. However, the old row parties started to include AXO, PM, KKG and XO since these sororities typically were friends and relatives of the girls in the First Circle sororities. And because First Circle sororities aren't all insecure. This is why some of the "old row" sororities have actually been at UA for less time than those considered "new row". This is also why some sororities like phi mu (and I'm not critizicing them, they're cool) are open minded for "old row" and have a number of girls who are yanks. This would not happen in a 1st Circle sorority because they have an obligation to stay within their traditions more than other sororities.
So, that is why some sororities are called old row even though there was never officially an old row for sororities. It mainly has to do with old row parties and old row shirts.
