I agree. AXO is only good at Alabama and pretty much a bottom house everywhere else. The original post says "the South" not just Bama.

Check the midwest and east coast - top house, at least upper middle everywhere else. They’re weak on the west coast though.

ATO is probably the best fraternity here... and by the way?’c it has long been considered one of the top and is not considered “new” - not that it matters. They just have more guys who aren’t Animal House- and that bothers some people (aka shallow people).
AXO and AGD are great here. Like 2 of the very best overall. Do you want to be in a sorority that’s great where you go to school or one that people at home might know better but has no sisterhood or you don’t fit?
Go where you fit....

This is true. AXO is very strong at Alabama, but not as strong at some other schools. I know that if it works out, many of my friends at other schools where it is not as strong, will wonder why someone wouldn't go to DDD, AOTT, or Chi O, those are also good houses at Bama, just AXO and Phi Mu, along with DDD, KD, and KKG, are very strong at Bama. There are so many good choices at Alabama!
