by: 1234What's the difference between Old and New Row fraternities? Is it basically In-State with connections vs Non In State?

---These were the second wave of fraternities to arrive on campus in the earlier 1900s. Beta came along in the 1960s and were for some reason included in being called "New Row" as well. Same with Sig Ep.

Close but not quite, some of the New Row fraternities pre-date Old Row houses, such as ATO and SX are older than some Old Row.
In the purest sense, Old Row Fraternities are houses they have always existed on University and stayed there when when all other houses, which some were on University, moved to Jefferson in the 1960s for bigger digs. All the fraternity houses use to be all around the Stadium area, but as they stadium grew and the size of the chapters grew the need to relocate became evident.
The Old Row houses tend to focus their recruitment in certain southern areas as the generation of members that joined tended to be from certain areas.
Some houses have early history at Alabama, but collapsed for various reasons to only recharter at a later date such as Sig Ep.
