formal attire

by:

My dad is taking me to the mall to get some new clothes before I go to college. I know how to dress on a normal day, boat shoes, polos. button downs, shorts above your knees etc. but I don't have any suits.

Can somebody recommend how many suits, bowties, ties etc. I would need? My dad thinks I only need 1 suit, 3 ties and a bowtie.

Well as a pledge you'll need a navy blue blazer with gold buttons. I suggest getting this from somewhere like JC Penney or Belk because it's going to get dirty and you don't want to waste a lot of money on it. Even consider checking thrift stores.

As for full suits, if you're only going to get one just go with a classic black tailored suit so you can have something to wear to more formal events such as date parties and formal chapter when you're an active.

When it comes to ties, definitely check out stores like TJ Maxx and Marshall's. Their ties are good quality and very reasonably priced. Just pick up a variety of colors/patterns. If you want you can get the novelty ties that have fratty prints on them like fish/dogs, but those are not necessary and typically look tacky and make you seem like a try hard in most situations.

Hope this helps. Good luck and roll tide!

Also I should add:

Avoid those pre-packaged shirt/tie combos that you find at TJ Maxx and Marshall's. Those are for GDI's who don't know how to dress.

Lol. I can't help but be humored by the gdi comment. So
according to you, 66% of the student body are nobodies because they chose to be non-Greek. You have a lot to learn. However, you will probably never know that because you live in a very small box.

Well, I can certainly understand wanting to fit in, but the comment about the "pre-packaged" shirts was offensive and comical at the same time. Small world them Greeks at Alabama live in.

please dont listen to the advice above! Do not go to the mall to get a suit.

Go to a specialty suit store. Tell them what you need. They will measure you and give you suggestions that you can pick from.
