sororities

by:

I am from Texas and have read the race questions on here. My question is that my grandmother is part African American. I look white, but everyone in my hometown knows my ancestry. Is that going to be a problem with the sororities?

this appears to be another troll. Have y'all noticed how many race related posts have popped up in recent months? Don't feed the troll.

shut the hell up
Race is factored into rushing and everyone knows it. She has a reason to be concerned

And to answer your question, no. that's stupid. no one is going to ask you about your ancestry

You're an alum that's always on here trying to keep things the way they were when you went here. STOP IT. Let us have our turn!

no, i'm not an alum
perhaps "Y'all" is but i'm stating nothing more than the truth. I'm an active but clearly all of the race posts are created for a reason

Yeah, like to find out if I have a chance of pledging or whether I shouldn't even try since I've heard about the racial discrimination here.

Don't worry about it, seriously. it doesn't matter. While membership selection is private I can assure you that with over a thousand girls going through figuring out your ancestry is not a priority lol

just go through and have fun. keep an open mind :)

be a problem unless you make it a problem. Keep it to yourself.

By: It will not

Should not be a problem, rush and have a good time!

Will the recs I've gotten say that I'm part African American? I'm not ashamed but I do want to be a part of a sorority in college so I don't want to be ostracized for my heritage.

might seem presumptuous to tell an alum what to mention in a rec -- just sayin'

But if they're close family ties, I wouldn't see a problem with it. I mean, it's not like she's going to see what's written about her. That said, I highly doubt they would mention one word about it

What would happen if she got a bid to say a top house and then they found out she was part AA. Would that make a difference in how welcome she was? Would the alums pitch a fit?

By: What would happen

What would happen is it would try to be kept hush hush because if it gets out the fraternities won't want to do swaps and mixers. then girls might drop and the house will have a hard time with girls want to come back to the house during recruitment

gamma phi did it and they're still struggling because of it

Women's rights are an essential part of the overall human rights agenda.
