homecoming queen

by: Serious

I saw the candidates for HC Queen and one stood out to me for appearance, platform and general involvement. She is not the machine backed candidate and it is very concerning to me that the most qualified likely won’t win.

So my question is : who is counting the votes and can a non-machine candidate ever really win? What is the mentality of this school that people vote for who the machine tells them? I don’t get it obviously.

A computer counts the votes, obviously. It’s not like we use paper ballots.

Technically yes, a non machine candidate could win. She would have to get the most votes. Not likely since the vast majority of campus outside of Greek life doesn’t give 2 shoots about homecoming queen.

People vote for the machine candidate because usually the reps in each house are either the cool girls or the mean girls (sometimes both). You either want to be their friend or not have them on your bad side. Also the machine benefits a ton from the dumb freshman and sophomore girls who just do what they’re told. I assume the fraternities vote machine because they couldn’t care less about who wins.

Honestly I think it’s becoming a little embarrassing within sororities for whoever accepts a machine nomination. I wonder how long it will go on, at least for homecoming queen.

I’m in an OR sorority ( not that it matters- just for perspective) and I did not vote for the machine candidate. If I felt she was most qualified, I would, even though I hate the idea of the machine choosing anything.

I voted for who I thought deserves it most based on reading and word of mouth from people i trust . I don’t know any of them personally.
