DDD sucks at Auburn and UGA. Average at most other SEC schools.

Kappa sucks at Auburn, in all of Florida and most of TN and SC. They’re good in Texas.

Phi Mu is middle of the road at Ole Miss and Miss State and is terrible at Missouri. Also bad at most Florida schools. They’re good at Auburn and UGA.

I think XO and KD are stronger in the southeast than DDD, KKG it PM.

Phi Mu is considered top at Auburn, but they’re nothing but pretty party girls who aren’t involved and get by on their looks.

DDD at Auburn is an upper middle house that’s full of cute, girl next door types who are involved and academic. They can be pretty wild, but not all are partiers.

Kappa at Auburn is lower tier and get sa bad rap, but they are sweet girls. I think they’re just overlooked because they are considered bottom. They have a good sisterhood and I think that’s what these girls are after.

Kappa and Phi Mu are pretty bad in florida. Phi Mu is average at ole miss. Also ddd and Kappa are definitely not top at Auburn. So no

By: No
by: Tiers

Kappa also isn’t top at Ole Miss. Kappa and DDD aren’t top at LSU. Phi Mu and Kappa aren’t top as USC either.

Which of course is not to say they’re bad chapters, but a chapter that’s top at one school may be bottom at another which is why caring about tiers is bs

At Ole Miss Kappa pulls strong OOS, and Atl which doesn’t count in Mississippi. LSU kappa pulls old NOLA.

ADPi is very strong in Georgia, Florida and North South Carolina. Yet they are near as good from Mississippi on West to Texas.

South Carolina, yes. North Carolina, no. More like middle in North Carolina.

KKG is a lot stronger in the Texas region.. Kappa’s a pretty strong school nationally, but I wouldn’t say that the Deep South is their stronghold

No kidding there isn’t a national ranking genius. It’s clearly which houses have the stronger presence consistently overall by state/region; hence “nationally “.

Some sororities are well known Nationally, but most every sorority is only strong in regions. In fact even the strongest sororities are top in some regions and bottom in other regions. It's impossible to claim that any one sorority is top in the Nation, especially not Kappa and Tri-Delt. Chi-O maybe.

That’s kind of all the the above posts are saying....that they are “well known nationally”. Example - Adpi isn’t strong out West, Southwest Midwest, South Midwest or Northeast, but relatively strong in the SEC, sooooo they aren’t strong nationally.

Correction.
Not strong West, Southwest, Northwest, Midwest, South Midwest - meaning Texas, Oklahoma, and Northeast sooooo obvi they aren’t strong nationally or top nationally.

Yes it does. As in, Aphi isn’t well known nationally, but is strong predominantly out west. Adpi is strong in the SEC, but isn’t strong nationally, because they are weak in every other region of the country.

Right.
Even among alum, ChiO, Theta, Kappa, and PiPhi are considered to be strongest nationally in a historical context. DG, Zeta, and Tri D aren't far behind. I usually lump those 6 in together.

Zeta is weak nationally. They're only powerhouse strong in the south. They barely have any chapters on the northeast coast, west coast and are bottom tier in the midwest.

Chi O, KKG, Theta
Pi Phi, DDD, DG
A Phi, AXO, KD
Zeta, GPhi
DZ, ADPi
Phi Mu
AXiD, SK, AGD
Tri Sigma, ASA, AEPhi
Phi Sig, DPhi E, SDT
AST, TPA

This is laughable. I'm in the northeast and these so-called "national" ranks don't make any sense at all.

The sororities you put in the bottom like AEPhi, SDT and DPhiE are very strong here but I've never heard of an ASA, AST, SSS or TPA chapter. Don't see a lot of AXiD, SK, ADPi or Phi Mu up here either, which is why these ranks are dumb.

but there's a pretty strong AXiD chapter at UNH and Penn State, also pretty good at Ohio State. Not a huge national presence, but literally every sorority has good, bad, and average chapters somewhere.

Alpha Phi has gotten a lot of hate, much of it deserved, for the way they are trying to break into the South, but they are consistently strong everywhere else. Alpha Phi absolutely rules the West Coast/Southwest. There is nowhere there that they aren't lower than "just below the top tier" and they are top, if not undisputed top, at many schools. They are super strong on the East Coast and upper Mid West as well. They are far, and I mean FAR, stronger than KD, Zeta, and AXO nationally. But they aren't as strong nationally as Kappa/DDD/XO or Pi Phi/DG/Theta. They are a definite #7.

The West Coast is dominated by Alpha Phi and DG, with Kappa, Pi Phi, and Theta often strong and little clusters of Gamma Phi Beta being strong but rarely at a huge school. ADPi, DDD, XO, AGD, and AXO are never above middle tier and often dead last, and KD, Zeta, and Phi Mu just aren't there. Like it or not, the West Coast is one of the richest places in the whole country and with some of the biggest and best schools, and you cannot be big nationally if you don't have a presence there, which limits how high KD/Zeta/Phi Mu can be ranked. But you can't be top six nationally either if you aren't very strong in the south, which is why Alpha Phi can't be considered top 6 nationally even though they dominate everywhere else. But definitely stronger than KD/Zeta/Phi Mu.

If you want to pretend to know what the strongest chapters are at any CA, OR, Washington, Colorado, or Arizona school, just randomly say three out of APhi/DG/Pi Phi/Theta/Kappa and mayyyybe Gamma Phi Beta if the school is somewhat smaller and you're probably correct.

APhi isn't stronger than KD and Zeta. You said it yourself, you can't be top nationally if you aren't good in the south. Being good in the south is important because it's the only place in the country where greek life actually matters. Schools in the west, midwest and northeast just don't care as much. So yes, I would say KD and Zeta are just as strong nationally as Aphi, if not better.

Why is it Theta seems to be so looked down upon at Bama, Auburn, Ol Miss and LSU... but is top at other SEC/Southern schools like UGA, Vandy, UK, Texas, SMU, Mizzou, OK, and TCU? (I realize TX and OK schools aren't quite south, but they aren't quite Midwest either).

Why is it KD, ChiO, ADPi, Tri Delta, and PM seem to rule the south, but are so variable everywhere else? (KD pretty much is terrible everywhere else).

And why do some chapters, like PiPhi and Kappa and DG, have such a variable desirability across the country?

By: Meh
by: @meh

Because sororities are different at different schools? The PNM pool is different, the campus culture is different, the local alumni are different, and these are just some of the factors that lead to chapters being different. That's why many sororities don't let you automatically affiliate when you transfer, because you might not vibe with the women in the chapter at your new school.

No one sorority or group of sororities "rules" the south. Sororities have strong and weak chapters everywhere, including where they "rule." Prime example: ADPi. You say they "rule the south" but they're not considered "top" at Ole Miss or UTK. Even in states that have a stronghold for specific sororities have schools where they're top, middle, and bottom, so you can't really say a chapter like Phi Mu for example is "best" in all of Mississippi. KD for example is not terrible everywhere other than the south. Two posts above here list like 10 schools in the north where they're top tier: UMD, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Penn State, St. Louis University, random ass schools like Franklin and Marshall. Pi Phi, Kappa, and DG are the same way. They all have strong chapters some places, "weak" chapters other places, and average chapters different places. All are still official members of their orgs, and a Kappa from a top tier chapter is no more a member than a Kappa from a bottom tier chapter.

Even then, what makes a sorority "terrible"? Not getting the hottest girls? Not partying with the hottest frats? If everyone gets a close sisterhood, has fun, and raises money for philanthropy, who cares?

You clearly know nothing about Greek life in MS!
Ole Miss: Chi O is very much on the way out and DG is probably 3rd now; DDD and KD tops though; no idea what will happen at rush
MS State: Chi O and KD have been tops for about the past 5 years with DG a close third; Phi Mu on social probation this semester for alcohol related issues and had a horrible rush and is barely No. 4 now; no one - not even Phi Mu - would seriously argue they are Top 2
Southern Miss: DDD, KD and Chi O are all the same - can't put one ahead of the other; Bid Day is this weekend so we'll see who does best

XO at Ole Miss is like KD here -- lots of history and tradition, first house on campus, etc., but they've slipped because they're not open to PNMs outside their typical social circles.
