fraternity rush is a joke
by: well
Fraternity rush is disappointing. iFC needs to do more with publishing rush events of all fraternities, not just bottom 10 or so. Rush chairs need to do better with actually responding or reaching out to guys interested in joining. Some contact information on IFC and chapter websites is not accurate and out of date. I'm sure I'm not alone, but it's just been a frustrating and disappointing time for a guy with no connections and IFC does nothing to help.
Spent $125 for this. Thanks for the tshirt.

I'm sure I'll be called crazy, but I turned down "top" NR bid because I didn't feel I fit in. I really liked a couple mid NR houses way more and was hoping for a bid, but never worked out. Now I'm sitting out and hoping to find some others not rushing to hang out with. Hmu, I'll probably be the guy at the Rec Friday and Saturday nights. Lol.

Sad for some but most of the rush events occur during Bama Bound, many of the chapters have open houses during that time frame. By the time fall classes start and the so called IFC rush occurs most pledge classes are filled or very close to be filled.
Fraternities learned not to rely on "fall rush" as most PMNs already have accepted bids in the spring and summer and if they waited to fill their classes on just the "fall rush" offerings they will come up short big time on quantity and quality.
Here is my advice for future PNMS in 2019 and beyond:
Definitely register on the fraternities national website as a prospect with interest, your name will get forwarded to the local chapter. Many local chapter websites are very outdated and useless.
If you know any members of the chapter, reach out to them get on their summer rush party list. If you know any sorority girl at Bama ask them if they would drop a recommendation for you with the Fraternities she maybe known at.
Look for invites during Bama Bound to attend open houses.
If you are already at Bama and missed out on getting a bid from a Fraternity, befriend members in your classes, in your dorm, in clubs...Get invited to a party, dinner at the house. Don't expect a bid, just be friendly and cool. If they like you they will make an offer.

When I signed up on IFC website I expressed interest in almost all fraternities but only 2 reached out to me directly without me doing anything. I then texted, emailed and registered on chapter websites for the others and got 4 more responses. It was very disappointing.
In the end I was only interested in 2 of the 6 but sadly didn't get a bid. Like someone above stated I too thought there'd be time when I got on campus. I feel I was never even given a chance with any of the other fraternities.
