fraternity rush is a joke
by: well
Fraternity rush is disappointing. iFC needs to do more with publishing rush events of all fraternities, not just bottom 10 or so. Rush chairs need to do better with actually responding or reaching out to guys interested in joining. Some contact information on IFC and chapter websites is not accurate and out of date. I'm sure I'm not alone, but it's just been a frustrating and disappointing time for a guy with no connections and IFC does nothing to help.
Spent $125 for this. Thanks for the tshirt.

Same here too. I have one option which I got during bama bound from a decent house, but I'm just not feeling it. I'm going to finish the week and then decide. Hopefully I'll start clicking with some of the guys and this will turn around. I'm hoping. Also not getting responses from other houses either, but still trying that too.

Each fraternity only takes 45-50 guys per year. It's a numbers game and you've got to start early - like March. Classes fill up fast. Most are full by early summer, way before "rush" starts. This is a sorority school, with mega houses and 400 girls each. Fraternities are an after-thought, much smaller houses, and average about 125 each. There aren't enough slots. Don't give up. Some take spring pledges. Work your friends, make the effort.

It's not just "connections". Outside of some OR houses, most pledges are OOS with no connections. They just started earlier. If the frats all waited until "rush", they still could only take 45-50 guys. They don't have the facilities to feed and house any more than that. It takes years and many tens of millions to expand like they've done for the sororities, and it won't happen. Tell those behind you to start early.

Don't get discouraged. The ranks on here are mostly bs, and d@mn sure not set in stone. A few high quality guys can turn a house around by bringing in a few more. Most active frat members are freshmen and sophomores, fewer juniors and a handful of seniors. That's 2 years to pretty much change the house. A strong pledge class can change a fraternity. You and your friends can make a difference.
And they can deteriorate just as fast. Some of those high ranks are masking some serious deterioration.

My guess is... if you’re an 18 year old boy on Greek rank, IFC and the way rush is run, isn’t the problem. I’ve seen some pretty questionable guys try to get bids and I’m not surprised when guys in fraternities aren’t interested in pledging them. It’s one thing for a college sorority girl to come on here... but a college guy? Idk to me it’s strange

Sounds like me. I'm not taking my bid and will try for spring or next year. Good luck.
