let’s talk hazing

TBH hazing is only prevalent in the fraternities here but even that usually isn't as hardcore as we tend to imagine.
Did UA sororities probably legitimately haze at one point? Yes, more than likely. But do they today? No. The traditional type of hazing, such as forcing members to drink copious amounts of alcohol and physical degradation and abuse, do not currently happen. And frankly they couldn't happen even if the girls on Exec really wanted it to. Why? Well, the biggest factor that truly prevents hazing is the size of the chapters. Do you think every single girl in a house of 400 would be able to keep a secret? Hazing a pledge class of 130 girls runs a major risk of people finding out. Another factor is that it's just not what sorority life is anymore. Girls in these houses want more from sororities than just letters to live by, they want sororities to provide real life opportunities for progress in academia and around the community. Believe it or not, but sorority life isn't what it looks like in the movies and on TV. We don't light candles in the basement and wear long black cloaks that cover our faces. We don't draw blood and take weird oaths promising to die for our sorority if needed. The creepiest thing we do is probably sing songs in harmony during initiation but even that is pretty tame.
Sorry this post is long but I just thinks it's important for PNMs to understand that sorority life isn't just hazing and partying.

There were some incidents last year of pledges being given alcohol by members. One national lowered the boom, the other did nothing.
One sorority had some racism and the girls were expelled. One sorority had racism and nothing was done.
The year before a sorority violated rules by having alcohol in the house and national lowered a semi-boom.
Better run houses have rules, even though they can suck and seem unfair. Anyone else know other examples?

you need to have more one on one talks with your fraternity friends (possibly drunk ones) because I can tell you the things they've confessed to me are HORRIFYING. Fraternities at bama haze. A lot.
