rushing gpa

by:

I've heard a bunch of mixed messgaes on what the actual GPA needed for rush is. On the website and such it says a 3.0 or higher. Is that actually a real or do sororities want PNM's with higher GPA's than a 3.0. Also will having a GPA of a 3.0 ruin your odds of getting in a sorority

A lot of sororities will immediately cut girls with 3.0 gpas.

If you have connections to any houses, a 3.0 won’t get you dismissed entirely. Many houses have a hard cut off at 3.0 provided they like everything else about the girl. If they are on the fence, they use GPA as a determining factor. If you don’t have any connections to any house, you may get put on the first drop list for Philanthropy. It has nothing to do with you or your ability to be successful at UA or be a good sister; it’s just that houses have to get their numbers down and they will only pull a girl off that drop list if she was amazing walking through the front door at IWT. You can still find a house that you will be happy in and make long lasting friends. Houses are filled with girls that can make you feel right at home.

They may be raising it to 3.4 minimum next year. personally I don't agree with it and I don't see how they could but it may be

Why don’t you agree with it? It’s not like it’s required it’s just suggested. Everyone always complains about chapters with crappy grades but doesn’t want anybody to do anything about it

I personally wish we could have a minimum of at least 3.0 but it’s actually not allowed unless your formal rush is in the spring because then it’s based on college grades

I don't agree with it either, mainly because a high school GPA is NOT indicative of how well you will do in college because college and hs is so different academically. I was the person in high school who had to study for WEEKS just to get a B or C, had extreme trouble keeping up, had to work ridiculously hard if I wanted an A. Got to college, the structure just works better for me and I have no problem pulling A's.
On the contrary, a lot of my friends with 4.0s in HS got to college and absolutely tanked because they could breze by in high school, not so much in college because you actually need to study.
Raising the min gpa for girls who have never even taken a college course is not going to make houses have higher gpas. You need to do something about the study habits of the girls who are already in the house.

I rushed last year with a 3.1 from far out of state and no connections... I had a full schedule every round and ended up in an old row house

If you’re still on here, could you give some more deets on this rush? Like are you a supermodel or do some of us basic girls have a shot with a 3.0? Not looking for old row or anything crazy...

What if you have a 2.8? Is it even worth it to go through rush?

By: Ugh
by: Justsayin

I’d like to see what people
Think who actually know but....if you look at Greek chic it says they recommend a 3.2 but a 2.8 puts you in the “yellow” zone meaning you will have heavy cuts. You only need one girl.

You easily could still get in a sorority but with a 2.8 you for sure will be very limited. A lot of sororities will be forced to drop you.

wait so I keep seeing that the sororities have a minimum gpa requirement & Ive been trying hard to find it- but it’s not on the Panhellenic website and whenever i google it I get taken to the 2018 Fall Greek Grade Report which is helpful but which of the houses with the highest gpas do not take girls with under a 3.0? I’m just trying to get a feel for what I’m getting myself into I really don’t want to go into it blind, I’m really nervous.

You aren't going to find specific houses min gpa's posted anywhere. That's internally info. Some are allowed to take some gpa exceptions, some aren't. Look up gpa rankings from spring. If they are top ranked and top gpa house, they most likely won't take a low gpa. If they are a top ranked house with a middle of the row gpa ranking, you can guess they may be looking to move up and won't take low gpa's.

The 2017 Greek Chic had suggested GPAs listed. (There is no way of knowing if these are a minimum, how firm they are and if they are still accurate.)

I come from the school of thought that GPA does not define you just how certain letters on your shirt does not define you.

I understand GPA is an 'objective' tool used to help determine if a PNM will be successful in college BUT aren't we here to quit objectifying people, especially our sisters or potential sisters?

Let's use GPA a guide and not a rule and work harder to get to know each other and understand what makes one tick. Lots of girls with high GPAs I don't want to be sisters with and vice versa. We can not let a number define who we are and what we do.

For you PNMs with lower GPAs - can you explain why your GPA is low? Are you medicated for an illness, anxiety, or depression? Do you suffer from test anxiety? Have you experienced a life altering ordeal? Don't give up on your dream to be in a sorority - make it happen for yourself! Good Luck!! /n/n/n/n/n

Let's subjectify each other instead and figure out what makes one tick in the 5 minute convo we have during rush. Yeah and don't forget to talk about all the meds you take for depression during the party.
