best dorms for freshman girls
by: newbieI am going to bama next year and trying to figure out what the best dorm to live in would be. If I plan on rushing to be in a sorority, love to work out, enjoy privacy but also don't want to be far away from my sorority house which would be the best dorm to live in?

tutwiller is close to sororities and is hella fun its pretty much all greek girls, its a traditional style dorm, 1 bedroom with 2 girls and community bathrooms. and its being remodeled right now
presidential is totally opposite side of campus but literally right next to the gym. its apartment style with 4 single person bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen and living space. its the newest dorm as of right now and can be pretty fun too
both are literally opposite sides of campus and about a 25 min walk from each other, but the buses are usually pretty good depending on the time of day
if you cant get either of those for some reason go with radgecrest

Pres is probably the best bet for you! It’s 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom with a kitchen and a living room. I lived there freshman year and it was so nice to have roommates but still have the privacy of my own room. It’s also right next to the gym. It is across campus from the row, but there are 2 buses that run from right in front of Pres all day to 3 or 4 buildings on/near the row.

All the dorms are filled with mostly freshmen. If you insist on your own room and have lots of $$, chose one of the suite dorms. Or buy a room all for your own lonesome self. Tutwiler, Parham, Burke, Harris and a few others are traditional, two-to-a-room, bathroom-down-the-hall, very little storage space dorms. OTOH, you don't have to deal with drama from more than two roommate, and you don't have to clean the bathroom or supply all your own toilet tissue.

i live in one of the ridgecrest dorms and wish i lived in tut. most of my friends live there, the location is SO much better, and i feel like i’m missing out on the experience of living in a community style dorm. living here, i don’t know and have never met a single person on my floor, and most of them are gdi’s who don’t really leave their rooms often, there’s rarely anyone in the halls or socializing. if you get the chance, live in tut! if for some reason you can’t get in, the other dorms are fine and you can always live in your sorority house later on

Those “suites” in Tut are not generally available. They are something that are made available as a thank you for large scholarship or other donations to the university — or for the kids or grandchildren of VIPs.
