bottom tier at big school vs top at small school?

ACC and Big 12 have some awesome Greek schools too (hell even a few in the PAC 12 and Big 10 are decent just kind of different), and then some random schools like Washington & Lee. Schools like Bama, UGA, and Ole Miss, but the best Greek schools in the Big 12 and ACC can compete with the Greek systems of the next best SEC Greek schools like LSU, USC and Auburn. But yeah lower tier at a lot of SEC schools would be top tier or higher at a lot of D-II schools.

both Bama and UGA are good schools academically, as are a lot of the other SEC schools like Vandy, Florida a. You shouldn't choose a school just for Greek life, but honestly a lot of people wouldn't enjoy a school with a bad Greek system much.

uhhhh...Bama and UGA are not in the same league. Don't delude yourself.

Don't go to either school, but Bama is ranked around 80 and Georgia is around 60. Georgia is somewhat better academically, but they aren't really on a completely different level.

all of the Machine fraternities at Bama are strong nationally. A few of the others are too, but really the only lower tier fraternity at Bama that is that good nationally is Sig Ep.

The lower sororities are better nationally than the top ones here

Is competitive in a much different way from the others -- instead of using quota and total, each chapter takes only as many new members as there are vacancies in the house. Most houses require members to live in all four years. (The exceptions are ADPi, whose national requires that they allow live-outs, and the two unhoused chapters, Alpha Sigma Alpha and Theta Phi Alpha.)

Add in the fact that Indiana's recruitment numbers are comparable to those in the SEC, and that means many PNMs who would be happy in any house get dropped completely. It's not unusual for a PNM to be released even after pref.

has a messed up system. They cut more than half the girls going through rush, and due to their bed quota they can't even cover it by having more sororities. 22 of 26 Panhellenic sororities are giving these numbers.

WHAT A JOKE. Those schools don't have a better greek system than BAMA and Ole Miss. They have big pledge classes because they only have 9 sororities unlike texas, oklahoma, etc. you look like a complete idiot. Ole Miss and Bama are the hardest rushed based on the amount of girls they cut and the percentage of girls getting their top house

That's Greekrank BS. UT's competitiveness has absolutely nothing to do with girls dropping because they don't get the house they want, that's just something insecure girls made up on GR. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, it does some, but 500+ girls simply didn't get a bid period. Can't speak for Bama, but I assume it's similar. That means 20-something% are rushing and only 15% are actually getting in, so basically all the sororities end up being pretty good.

As opposed to schools where pretty much everyone gets a bid. At those schools, the bottom houses really do just end up getting mostly random girls.

Bama's own Greek Life office says that 85% of PNMs were placed last fall. I've read similar numbers for UT.

where you heard them, cause those were the official numbers for UT. Number of houses compared to quota indicate slightly less than 1000 girls would end up getting bids, and something like 1500 rushed.

a top tier fraternity at a school like UT or OU is, if anything probably bigger and wealthier than a top tier fraternity at most SEC schools and would be more comparable to the SEC school's top tier groups. One of the differences is that the percentage in Greek life at those schools is more like 15% rather than 30+% at schools like Ole Miss or Bama, so there end up only being 4 or so top tier fraternities and a sharper distinction between top and upper-middle tier groups. At Bama the top 10 or so fraternities are all in a relatively similar milieu and even with the old row/new row thing aren't as sharply defined in relative placement. That could also have to do with the fact that some of the Big 12 systems got really hammered by school administrators in the 80s and 90s and lost a lot of their big fraternities which mostly have had failed recolonizations or failed to live up to past glories since returning.

For sheer snob appeal, I'd put KD, Kappa, and Tri-Delt at Bama against PKT (Pi Phi, Kappa, and Theta) at Texas any day.

PKT at Texas probably have more money than any sororities at Bama, but DDD, XO and Zeta are also top tier at UT and probably cooler and more attractive than PKT.
