But if a sorority really likes you, they'll find a rec for you. However, save them the trouble because if it comes down to you and another girl who already has a rec, you're getting cut. Do everything you can to get a rec for each house, and get them in before August so that the sororities have time to look over your rec and see how awesome you are!

What if I dont know any alumna that could write me one? What should I do if that is the case?send my resume, so the sororities can write me one? Or should I ask a random alumna if she could write one for me?

Start asking your teachers, friends of your mom, friends of friends, etc. You'll be surprised how many people you know who were Greeks and you just didn't know it. This is recruitment at Alabama. Your going to have to work for it a little bit, or even a lot...if you aren't willing to throw in 100%, don't bother.

might be a list of alumni for the town you live in, especially if there's a university.

Check out sororities' national pages to see if there's an alumnae chapter in a city near you. Or check to see if there's an alumnae Pahnellenic chapter near you. Then you can get in contact with them to see if they have an women you can meet to write a rec for you. But "just start.." is right, you have to work for this.

Another thought-do you know girls in some of the sororities? They usually know some of the seniors who are leaving who are excited about writing recs. Or check with older girls who went to your high school who might already be in sororities. They may know alums too.

Do only certain sororities allow active members to write letters of recommendation?

Only know about our own organization. Getting in touch with people you know is the best way to do it.

I hate for PNMs to stress about this, but I've received e-mails from girls swearing that they can't find an alum from my sorority when they're sitting in the middle of one of the most densely-populated areas for our members. It makes me think the PNM is just lazy.
So...make a BIG effort to find somebody from every one of the 16 NPC sororities that participate in rush. It's better if they know you, or your parents. And when you do contact an alum of one group, ask if they know alumnae of other groups. They often do.
Even men may have wives, sisters, mothers, friends who are sorority alumnae. As EVERYBODY.

One way to find older girls who've pledge is to go to the university's web site and search for "sorority pledges announced". In fact, I've done it for you: uanews.ua.edu/?s=sorority+pledges
Search these lists for gals from your hometown (copy and paste to a Word document, then control/f to find your hometown mentions). Contact them and ask who recommended them. You'll find some who've resigned and some who never knew who recommended them, but you'll also find some who do know who recommended them. Then go to that person and ask for a recommendation. Make sure you have a packet to hand them - your resume (with parents' names), school transcript (unofficial copy is OK) and a picture or two with your name on the back.

Alumna here must be a little old because you can ctrl + f on the webpage to find your hometown. No need to take the time to paste everything into a Word doc. But other than that, her advice is solid.

It is a lot of trouble to get recs, but you have to decide how much you want this. If it's not worth your time now, it won't be later.

Is It really necessary to get more than 1 rec per house? Do the sororities really need all this info? How many recs should we get?

I would say no more than 2 or 3 because you don't want to seem desperate. One is definitely a good start, but if you can get a few, then that's good too. If you have one per house, don't worry too much.

A good rec is still not a guarentee that you will get in the house you want, unfortunately. I have a friend who got a rec from the KD national president, and she STILL got cut! They are, however, still necessary.

Well it's Kappa Delta at alabama. They are the most exclusive sorority. If ur not from below the mason Dixon line, forget about it. Almost all of them are from old southern money.
