as of this year, DG and Theta are apparently backed by the machine. So it's every sorority besides Alpha Phi and Gamma Phi.

It's all about money paid into an account for a big party. And SGA campaigning. But they don't back sorority members for SGA jobs, they're only backed for homecoming queen.

I'm not affiliated with greek life at Alabama, but The Machine is not that big of deal. An alumni told me about it and she went to Alabama about 30 years ago and it was there then. They just decided on who they're going to support in SGA, Homecoming, etc. things like that. The Crimson White made it seem like an unfair advantage to others, but in reality it's all how politics work. It's not some secret horrid thing that many make it out to be.

The Machine is just a more formalized version of what Greeks do pretty much everywhere else. At other schools IFC and Panhellenic will tell people what Greeks are running for offices and whatnot and more often than not Greeks win a lot of positions. Still as far a prominence in Greek life at Alabama goes, the Affiliated houses tend to be the strongest.

The only two houses not affiliated are a Theta and SK!
