but generally speaking you're close enough with the guy that you've probably already hooked up OR you both know that you wanna hook up with one another, it's not like he's a stranger and you probably wouldn't say yes to an overnight formal unless you wanted to hook up anyways? or you've both already established that hooking up won't happen, i guess, idk.

Some guys bring really good friends, some guys bring their friends with benefits, some guys bring their girlfriends, and some guys bring girls they found last minute either through friends he has in a sorority or on tinder. TBH, since you are going as a date, most guys will be expecting to hookup, unless told otherwise. It's kind of like a sorority formal - girls can bring whoever, whether he be a friend, boyfriend, or somewhere in between there. As a date, it's assumed you're willing to go home with him unless you tell him you're not down for that. Also, for frat formals, y'all share a bed so...
But most guys aren't pushy. I mean in general, when guys get drunk they'll kind of insinuate they want to hookup but if sternly tell them no, they'll usually back off lol.

Lots of girls I know go with their boyfriends and they've already hooked up before. The ones who go with friends have a relationship with the guy and the guy knows it's not going to be a hookup. If they've just met, most girls find a way to tell the guy first that they're not ready for a "relationship" but they're willing to go as friends if he wants to.
