Sororities
Old Row - ΑΧΩ, ΑΓΔ, ΧΩ, ΔΔΔ, ΚΔ, ΚΚΓ, ΦΜ
New Row - ΑΔΠ, ΑΦ, ΔΓ, ΔΖ, ΓΦΒ, ΚΑΘ, ΠΒΦ, ΖΤΑ

Fraternities
Old Row - KΑ, ΣN, ΦΓΔ, ΔKE, ΦΔΘ, ΣAE
New Row - ΘΧ, ΣΧ, ΠKΦ, ΠKE, KΣ, ΔX, ATΩ, BΘΠ, ΦKΨ, ΣΦE, ΛXA, ZBT and everyone else on Jefferson

Old Row houses are a subset of the better, bigger houses on campus. They're membership is for a larger part made up of Alabamians. There is nothing that truly or recognizably distinguishes the two groups, and its historic purpose/meaning seams to be lost in time.

Because Old Row are on average better, the Old Row label carries a prestige factor on campus. Lastly, members in Old Row houses tend to hang out only with other Old Row house members. For most members there intentions are not meant to be snobby, but rather a personal choice to form friendships with other Alabamians whom share similar tastes, interests, and upbringings.

Old Row right for you?
Evaluate who you think and who you actually get along with better. If you're OOS, convincing old row houses to support your bid is a tougher battle than for in-state students. Nevertheless you'll have fun in both old row and new row

Can y'all stop telling lies???
The only difference between Old Row and New Row, for sororities, is the labels. For sororities, Old Row means virtually nothing. All it guarantees you is being able to say "I'm Old Row" for four years and one monster swap a year... That's it. The "prestige" of being Old Row went right out the window a few years ago when Old Row houses started pledging larger amounts of OOS girls because they realized that a girl from the South with nothing else to offer actually isn't better than a girl from the North/West that's extremely well rounded.
As for which houses are "better" is completely your opinion. But you should realize that the reason why there's so much debate over ranks on this site recently is because people are realizing that a lot of the Old Row houses don't have a lot to offer other than being Old Row... People especially see this with houses like KKG, KD, DDD, and AGD. I'm sorry to call y'all out but the majority of Old Row houses have relied heavily on being Old Row without working too hard for anything else (like grades, involvement, etc.)... Which is why a lot of people try to rank them lower than they've been ranked in the past.

has this changed? Does it really matter that much if you are coming from OOS? Do Old Row houses really cut you for just that?

Houses don’t cut you for being oos, it’s just that OR houses have members who have friends from camp, high school, sports, etc so they take up a large number of the pledge class. OR houses still take plenty of oos girls, especially kappa and axo which tend to be less southern than the rest

Trust me, your experience will suck if you go OR if you are out of state. The girls are from the same high schools and camps and will ignore you.
