how does fraternity rushing process work?
by: FreshmanI'm a freshman from NJ and my roommates and I wanted to know how the whole thing works? Our undertstanding is that fraternities start giving out bids in springs at their parties and stuff. Do we need to be invited to these parties? What if we can't visit in summer?

This year's Spring rush (this upcoming semester) will be for current students at UA. They won't formally give you a bid this Spring if you're going to be a freshman next school year because why would they do that. You should start planning for Fall rush though, which is more formal and structured than Spring rush. For the most part, you need to be invited to the rush parties, whether they be during Fall or Spring rush. You can do this by directly contacting the rush chairs, contact information can be found online, or by having someone in the fraternity put your name down. The earliest fraternities give out bids to incoming freshman is usually over the summer because some fraternities hold rush parties during orientations. If you can't visit over the summer you'll still have Fall rush so it's not a big deal if you can't rush over the summer. If you know literally anyone, boy or girl, that currently goes to UA I suggest you reach out to them and ask if they have any connections to guys in fraternities so that you can start getting your name out and about. Good luck!

We start giving out bids for next years Freshman Pledge class in March. None of the good houses have spring pledgeship.
