Im going to be a freshman next year at Alabama next year and i'm planning on rushing! Any suggestions on housing, because people have said some of the options are extremely far away from the sororities!

Tut is definitely the closest to sorority row, if you live there, you'll love to hate it.
Burke and Parham are pretty much right next to DG but I don't know many people who rush who lived there.
All the suite style dorms are across campus pretty much but are so much nicer. I know plenty of people who lived in the suite style dorms that survived being far away from their sorority haha. The suite style dorms are nice bc you'll have more privacy and you'll probably be able to meet more boys. Tut is super nice because its literally right next to the row, pretty much everyone who lives in tut rushes, and you'll make tons of friends on your floor.

I'm currently a freshman and I live in Tut. Honestly, it's not the best, but it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I personally really like the traditional dorm because I feel like it gives me the traditional college experience and I've gotten to get really close with my roommate since we live in the same space. Living in Tut was the best thing during rush, it was literally a five minute walk to the sorority houses every morning while my other friends who lived in Pres would complain about buses being late and having to literally walk all the way across campus in the heat. Also all the voting at the end of the days happens in the computer labs in Tut so that's also convenient. My friends who also live in Pres and the other suite style dorms tell me about how they rarely go to their houses to eat since it's so far. Tut is also nice because it's right by the stadium and the frat houses aren't that far of a walk and Tut has it's own little convenience store on the first floor. Overall if you want to be close to the heart of campus and your sorority house I'd completely recommend Tut. I'd say 95% of girls in Tut are in a sorority and the other 5% rushed but dropped. It's honestly a great time. Burke and Parham are eh. If you do choose Tut I would advise you to pick a roommate who you genuinely like and have similar interests with because unlike in the suite style dorms you really can't escape a "bad" roommate. Good luck!!

Tut is the best you have to live here

Distance wise, tut is awesome. But after a long day of rush, the last thing you wanna do is go into a small, shared cubicle. I live in Pres and it's honestly the best decision I've made; there's buses during rush to get you to and from the row, during the year you meet SO many more girls from other sororities and you meet a lot of boys(most of my best friends are boys because of this), most boys live in Pres so shacking is easier when you live in one of the Pres buildings and don't have to pay an uber to take you to tut. The key to living further away is taking the buses; they get me to class, they get me to chapter, and they get me to meals and it's honestly not bad at all.

I was/am painfully shy and an only child. I also decided to go to Bama a little late in the game so my housing application was very late. I cried my eyes out when I found out I got tut because I desperately thought I needed my own private room. I was so wrong. Being around so many girls during rush really gave me confidence I didn't know I had. I strongly believe that is the reason why I got a bid. I think if I would of had my own room in a suite or apartment it might of been different. Really any of the traditional style dorms are probably your best bet. Rush is one week of your life so don't obsess over location. Freshman year is just one year of your life so take a chance and live in true freshman style.

Tut if rushing. Too close to sorority row not to---breakfast, lunch, studying, hanging out--just across the street. Not the greatest accomdations but the friends and stories that will be part of your experiences is well worth it. Fun times.

You literally will never have an opportunity to live on campus again after your freshman year unless you apply to live in your sorority house or choose to become an RA, so basically for the next three years you'll be commuting to school... So why not be as close to campus as you can your freshman year. Tut really is very convenient - you have the sorority houses right across the street for your meals, chapter, tutoring, etc, you have Burke dining down the street if you don't want to eat at your house, you have Julia's market in the building if you don't feel like leaving the building to eat, you're literally right in front of the stadium, you're close to the University Blvd frats, etc. A lot of people put Tut down for being old and small but it's honestly such a great time. Ask literally any sorority girl that lived in Tut how she felt about her experience there and I can guarantee she'll tell you that, regardless of how old or small or whatever, it was the best thing ever.

Back in the day, I lived in Burke and loved it. Back then it was a bit of a walk to my house, now it's not at all. If there's a fire drill, you only have to climb a max of 4 floors, not 22 or however many there are. It's right across the street from a decent dining hall. The rooms are a few inches bigger. The whole place is smaller and friendlier.
As far as the room, it's identical to Tutwiler.
Like Tut, you also save your 'rents some money over a suite-style dorm.

1. Tut is 14 floors not 22
2. Tut and Burke are not identical. Yes, they're both traditional but the rooms have a lot of differences.

..., as long as this is an anonymous site, and as long as I can contribute, old washed out moms will be here.
Thank you, UA, for the correction. I'm sorry, I typed too fast - I lived in Parham, not Burke. There's hardly a dime's worth of difference between Parham and Tutwiler rooms - the layout is the same, same concrete block walls. Back in the day, we could open Parham's windows but I don't know if that's still true.

It's sad to see this site overrun by moms who are way, way past their prime. Sorry that you don't have anything else exciting going on in your life and that you're prowling on this site 24/7. Move on.

Bryce Lawn is basically like apartments for freshman. They are right next to the frat houses and super close to the quad. 10/10 recommend
