can someone explain cob bids and snap bids?

snap bids are offered by houses who do not make quota to girls who were released completely or dropped out-- so for example if you preffed KD and DG and didn't list DG but weren't high enough on KD's list you are not eligible for a snap bid because you didn't list all of your houses....
COB is continuous open bidding and can happen any time after bid-day by houses who are not at total.
Both are very rare and I wouldn't count on them as an option if you are simply "not liking" your choices and think you will do better with a snap or COB...

Snap bids happen when a house does not make quota. They are allowed to extend bids to girls who didn't get a bid or even girls who didn't go through rush. As long as girls accept bids before the Bid Day event starts, the house can "snap" up to quota. Snap bids RARELY happen here because our houses make quota.
COB (Continuous Open Bidding) is the process where chapters can extend bids after Panhellenic sets the new "total" number for this year. For example, If total is 380 and a house has 376 actives/new members, they can COB 4 girls to get up to 380.
COB is tricky. The most competitive houses rarely have more than 1-2 openings and those almost always go to BFF's of actives. It happens but it's certainly not publicized. Other houses may hold informal COB rush events by invitation only if they have 5+ openings. Again, it's usually girls who are already friends with the actives who are invited to these events. The Greek Life office should provide a list of girls interested in COB to the eligible houses. If you end up in a situation where COB is something you'd be interested in, tell the Greek Life office to float your name. Also tell your friends in the houses that if a spot ever comes open you'd love to be considered for it.
If you are thinking you will have better options with COB than you do today with a small invite list, you are WRONG. If you are a PNM with invites, you have options. Go to parties with an open mind and find things you like about each house.

Dropping out of rush will not qualify you for a snap bid. Only those who maximized their options, meaning they did not drop any houses that they could have gone to, are eligible. If you were dropped by all houses you will go on the snap bid list. But don't count on a snap bid. They are very, very rare here. Plus for COB, some houses have a once cut always cut rule, so you will not get a second chance at these houses IF they COB. IF YOU ARE OFFERED A BID AND DO NOT ACCEPT IT, OR IF YOU ACCEPT A BID AND BECOME A PLEDGE AND THEN DROP, YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR COB. Your best shot a being in a sorority is right now.
