This is a sad story. An assault. I don't know if it is true but Cornell men need to be aware of the guidelines that universities must follow in this state. You will be expelled or, at the least, suspended if you are accused by a fellow student. Whether you said it was consensual is not even considered. You have far fewer rights than if you were charged legally. Go look online if you don't believe me.

Of course, if there was an actual assault then it is horrible for the victim. No one should feel unsafe on a college campus. It is devastating for the victim.

A woman who is inebriated is never a consensual partner.

""no" means "no!""

So what if she is drunk and says "yes"? Does that also mean "no"?

Hate to be grown up about this but let it be a wake up. Don't get so out of your mind that you can't consent or tell if someone else is/did. A drunk person should not be considered a consenting partner, and if you are that drunk that you couldn't tell that...might want to take it down a notch. Don't know what the allegations are in this case, but hooking up with someone you don't know at all might also be a bad idea...

What are the pledges supposed to do now if all activities have ceased? Do they have the option to join another frat?

Most of you kids have been raised to respect others and to be accountable. Bad things happen. You need to watch out for each other and travel in groups. Both these kids lives are ruined. Wolfgang at best will get off without a conviction. This charge will hang over his head for the rest of his life.

A few years back a bunch of SAE freshman pledges were charged with the death of a fellow frat member from hazing. They eventually were found not guilty but the school expelled them well before the trial and verdict came.

Will Cornell suspend or expell Ballinger? Is it fair to expell someone who hasn't been proven guilty in a court of law? \n\n\n\n\n

According to the above link, the Chapter President was release yesterday until his arraignment, but the University will not let him back on campus, so I would that he is screwed.

It was disturbing that neither the accused' lawyer or parents were with him when he was released from jail.

It won't be surprising that parents weren't there if we find he actually did this...if he's guilty, then stands to reason parenting was not so present in this kid's life. No rules, no consequences creates this type of poor character. Starts at home:(. Plenty of wealthy, good looking kids who have morals and values...

It is scary that a girl can just decide the next day she didn't want to. But in majority of cases, the girl is not making it up...it's no picnic to go through that. Problem is, they are both impaired and she probably made a poor decision to go up to his room, and then changed her mind. May be frustrating for the guy, but no reason to force himself on her. Guys beware...hooking up with a stranger USA bad idea...

Duhhh, I'm totally with you on that one guys. And its not the "following day", they can point a finger at you 3 months later and still ruin your live because her bffs convinced her to do so. Sad but true.

Lets face it, many of you girls are sober virgins throughout college (absolutely nothing wrong with that, good wife material) but then you decide to go crazy one night without knowing how to drink. If anything happens, at least take responsibility for your actions, drunk or not.

I'm not saying its the girls fault in this case BUT the kid is innocent UNTIL proven guilty. In this case its clearly the other way.

Thanks
