mid tier at big southern will get me what at corne
by: suplong story short, I'm at a large, selective southern university and received a bid to a mid tier chapter. Will be transferring to Cornell for spring and want to try for top tier...APhi or DG. Doable? I'm from oos so don't know any actives at Cornell , pretty, smart/good resume but not wealthy (I'm on scholarshlp/financial aid) and am a legacy at one of the top 3 (big sis is an active down south). What are my chances for going top 3??

Greek life here is a much different experience than how it is in the south. No one cares if you're out of state, or if you know any of the active sisters, or if you're wealthy or have a "good resume". Being pretty or smart doesn't mean anything either, it's more about fit. Thats why there are hot, social girls in bottom and mid tier houses here. Yeah, top houses want hot girls to represent them. But for most of these houses, if they can tell that you only want them because they're top, they'll drop you in a second and have in the past. It's because you won't fit in, personality wise. Being in a top house doesn't really mean much here either, sorry. no one takes Greek life here as seriously as you do

So tiers aren't important, but y'all rank left and right on a site called....greekrank! being pretty doesn't mean anything, except that top tiers want 'hot' girls....OK....you make ALOT of sense. Sounds like greek life at Cornell is exactly like greeklife down south.

Once you receive a bid, you're not eligible for formal member recruitment for a full calendar year. If you got yours in the fall, that means you can't rush again until Fall 2016 at the earliest. Even worse, if you accepted the bid, you are not allowed to rush another PHC sorority or join any other house other than the one you already pledged. You can petition to join the Cornell chapter of your sorority, but there's a chance they won't accept you because they didn't pick you specifically during recruitment

You may have screwed yourself over a bit. Very few houses do fall recruitment because its informal recruitment and houses are only eligible for that if they have open spots in the house i.e. didn't fill their newest PC, or girls transferred or deactivated. Core 4, as they're called here, NEVER does informal. Also, it's much more difficult to get into a top house as a sophomore than it is as a freshmen because they don't want their lineages to get messed up. Some houses don't take any on principle, but some allot 3-5 out of 40-60 girls in a PC. Middle and bottom tier are generally better about it. You'll have a better chance as a sophomore if you're a legacy or already are friends with a bunch of girls in the house, but otherwise I doubt it, sorry.

Double check me about being ineligible though, because your bid was from Fall 2015 and recruitment is Spring 2016. I'm not 100% how they define a calendar year, but the general consensus here is that if you get a bid in the spring and don't take it, you can't do informal in the fall
