Yes. But you still have to work to impress any house.

Yes. But since most don't, you should be fine. Most freshman know Greeks through non greek organizations on campus. It's not like they are bffs lol

It's the sophomores that need to worry more about that.

I have a question! I'm paying for my potential involvement in greek life by myself (parents won't pay) I have a campus job. I was wondering if it would be detrimental for me to ask about payment plans for dues at the beginning of the recruitment process, or towards the end. Should I be upfront. Should I ask my rho gamma? Also, when do you pay your dues - once you get your bid (if you get one) or afterwards!?

You can apply for sorority specific scholarships (at the national level) once you sign your bid. However, since they are scholarships you are not guaranteed to get them. You can try to see if a house has a payment plan during rush by asking the girls (there will be financial stuff gone over second round however) or by asking your rho gamma. Some of these plans let you pay your dues in installments, but I don't know what other houses do. Panhellenic should have info regarding the total cost of joining any particular house (minus payment plans) on their website and rush guides that you will receive the day before round 1.

Same with SDT - they know the majority of girls because they all went to the same high schools on Long Island/nj
