dry period
by: ??during the dry period can the girls not drink at ALL, or just not with their sorority? i.e. if you go to bars and after hours with your friends, and don't put pictures of it all over social media, are you in trouble?

You can't drink at all (at bars, mixers, house parties, you name it) during the dry period. If any girl in your house sees you out you will get in MAJOR trouble - like personal social probation. Now if a sorority upperclassmen in another house sees you out, you're putting your own house at risk because Panhellenic can fine your house and also has other consequences. Don't risk it because it's disrespectful to the older girls in your house that you'll be liable to if you break the rules and get caught.

I don't know about other sororities, but in mine consequences are rarely that severe. Unless your actions are just totally egregious (not sure what that would entail), you basically just get threatened/yelled at by new member educators and such. I would definitely shy away from going to bars/after hours, but house parties? You're probably ok. Just no pictures, don't mention to anyone that you're in a sorority, you know the drill. During dry period last year I went out a lot less and stuck to clubs' parties/rando engineering parties with my cs major friends and it was fine. Some girls DID go to bars, and we got dressed down for that.
Also, how dry IS dry period, really? Everyone pregames even if they don't drink at the mixer. Maintaining the appearance of sobriety is much more important than actually being sober all the time.
Be cautious, DON'T get yourself/your house in trouble. It's a teeny tiny price to pay.

my house clearly doesn't care as much as yours..... we even went to formals and drank. Plus side of not being the center of the greek system's attention ;P

I don't know of anywhere you would have had dry period coincide with someone's formal?

the top replies are either old graduates or outright trolling. for dry period you can’t drink at YOUR sorority’s events but you’re perfectly ok to drink elsewhere and at other parties/bars/wtv. if older girls see you out, we’re just supposed to ignore you since we can’t drink with you. this is how it was for every friend of mine i knew as well and i had friends across all the houses

If you're caught pregaming dry mixers, you could get barred from mixers (personal social probation). Don't risk it
